This is something between China and Japan, but just wait for outsiders to stir up trouble.

China-Japan relations, meanwhile, have been frayed over Taiwan, especially after U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a trip to the self-ruled democratic island in early August.

I asked at the time of Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan what was the purpose of her visit. Didn't it only cause an unnecessary tumult?  Much ado about nothing.

It's noteworthy that Taiwan's general public was calm and took things aplomb.

It seems that the Taiwanese population are rejecting the policies of President Tsia Wen's party. In the recent mid-term elections her party received a drubbing, she resigned as party leader as a result. There is also an ongoing scandal regarding what seems to be her false claim of having a Phd form the LSE.

Why? Why does Fumio Kishida not visit Xi Jinping in Beijing? PM Kishida, governing a small country has much more time than Xi Jinping governing China, a country very many times the size of Japan.

Excellent and much needed visit..

US keep your hands out of this..

@Stephen Chin Abe visited Xi in China in 2018. Diplomatic norms suggest Xi needs to return that visit.

I would not want to be photographed in the same room with Xi Jinping, much less host him for a formal state visit. It seems like the Chinese are trolling Japan by proposing this, literally daring Japan to demure. Xi just wants to be seen and photographed strutting around Japan like an emperor lloking down at Mr. Kishida. It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation for Japan, a real sewage sandwich.

Peace is better than war. Duh. Better a state visit than missiles raining down death and destruction.

That said, China might be less bellicose if it was not ruled by the dictator, Xi.

If Xi comes to Japan, one would hope he would be immediately arrested for committing crimes against humanity..... wishful thinking though.

@1glenn do you really think Xi wants peace?

Everyone in Japan bow to the great Jinping Xi who has chosen to bless Japan with his presence in a state visit that Japan pays for, with taxes on the people of Japan.

Jinping will warn Japan to not get involved when China invades Taiwan, and reiterate that the Senkaku's belong to China, which will in it's own time take full possession of them.

This will be a condescending visit by China's failure of a leader.

We will be sanctioned by the US.

I hope they can build a decent relationship. No doubt the US will start poking their nose in where it doesnt belong.

I will believe it when I see it. I hope he does visit. But this is talk, not action.

It seems that the Taiwanese population are rejecting the policies of President Tsia Wen's party.

Not exactly. The DPP has let power go to their head and has started acting like China recently. They wanted to unmask people online who criticized them, for example, and said all the plagiarism claims are fake news. They've been very arrogant, but give the KMT time to screw up, they always do when they show everyone how pro-CCP they are.

Kishida should visit democratic and Nippon friendly Taiwan first and foremost!

Da-kine why not?

Why? Why does Fumio Kishida not visit Xi Jinping in Beijing? PM Kishida, governing a small country has much more time than Xi Jinping governing China, a country very many times the size of Japan.

The late former prime minister, Shinzo Abe, had already officially visited Beijing in 2018, as deanzaZZR points out.

There had been a visit by him or his predecessor seven years before then.
