Under Japan's Constitution, parliamentary members are "exempt from apprehension while the Diet is in session."

Err, does that exemption cover all crimes?

Murder?

Why is a criminal a member of the Diet?

7 ( +10 / -3 )

So...people actually voted for this idiot?

Your answer is here;

Under Japan's Constitution, parliamentary members are "exempt from apprehension while the Diet is in session."

There will always be one who looks for the extremes to find something to pick at. Read the article again, it tells in detail the options the Diet has at their disposal.

He should make a J pop song called SORRY and put it on his channel

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Why is a criminal a member of the Diet?

So, where is there proof he is a criminal? He allegedly committed a crime. Oh and if you didnt know, there are a few members, past and present, in the Diet that are convicted criminals who served their time and got reelected.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

So...people actually voted for this idiot?

No, not in reality, they voted for his party, not him in particular

4 ( +6 / -2 )

'Ga Jii' or 'Gaa Shi'...?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Not serving the people he promised to serve.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

The fact he’s a you-tuber should’ve raised red flags from the start

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Why is a criminal a member of the Diet?

birds of a feather ….

GaaSyy

As in farts a lot?

So who even voted this clown in?

has been living in the United Arab Emirates since before the upper house election in 2022 in which he won his seat

Does he even know he's been elected?

He claims that he may be arrested if he returns to Japan over allegations of fraud.

So he's a criminal? Then he'll fit right in with the current Diet members. They all know about criminal activity.

belongs to the NHK Party

NHK, huh? Speaking about a bunch of crooks............

is reported to have swindled money from multiple people by telling them that he would give them an opportunity to meet members of the popular K-pop boy band BTS.

well, if you are dumb enough to pay money to see BTS, then that's kind of expected.

"So...people actually voted for this idiot?"

How does that work, exactly? Of course, I don't vote here. But, I do see the election posters every election period. And, they are for individual candidates, not simply their parties. Obviously, the candidates belong to parties. But, it is the individual candidates who are running, and who are elected, in each district. At least, it certainly seems that way based on those posters, from flyers, and from campaigning candidates themselves.

After the reprimand for GaaSyy is formally approved by the upper house on Wednesday, the chamber is expected to convene a regular session as early as March to urge him to make an apology.

So our tax money is used for these idiots to hold meetings on how to "urge" an even bigger idiot to apologize.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I allowed the lawmaker to attend the meeting remotely!. Kishida pushed people to work remotely. There is no problem!!! ,

just an excuse to arrest illegally the BIG BOSS.

Ordered to Apologize??? Oh, so the apology is not sincere, just the House of Councillors panel

wants to try to save face somewhere. Not sure where but they already show their stupidity.

What in the world goes on with these fake apologies throughout the world. Is somebody did something or said something and is forced into an apology, it means that they don't mean it, they are forced into it. And they did whatever they did from the beginning because that is what they wanted.

Tell the panel to go shove it.

Then put their names all over youtube and as "Good" recommended, make a J-Pop song and put that on Youtube as well.

Typical politician, hiding from charges of fraud. If he is innocent then why hide???

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Because he is a YouTuber ??? That is your call in today’s society as cyber racism. Gee there are jealous people

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

How on Earth can somebody not even on Japan soil during voting time and afterwars can be elected ?

He could be a scam as a matter of fact.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Apologise, or else!

That’ll learn ya.

Why is a criminal a member of the Diet?

As opposed to the average LDP member?

So...people actually voted for this idiot?

As opposed to the average LDP member?

Not serving the people he promised to serve.

That's 3 in a row.

They spent more time trying to make this guy feel guilty for doing nothing than they have explaining any of their scandals

he should say that and play to the crowd, we’re all thinking it. No matter if he gets booted at the end, he’s making his 15 minute of fame on YouTube because of it

Yubaru - Dont misunderstand what you are looking at.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_House_of_Councillors_national_proportional_representation_block

That certainly clarifies things. ¯_(°‿°)_/¯

"Proportional voting was introduced to Japan in the 1983 House of Councillors election. The proportional district replaced the previous nationwide district (全国区, zenkoku-ku) which elected 100 members of the House of Councillors (50 per election) by single non-transferable vote, i.e. votes were for individuals not parties as in the prefectural districts. Initially, the proportional representation block also elected 50 members, but was reduced to 48 members in the 2001 election, bringing the total of proportional members down to 96 in 2004.

From 1983 to 1998, the vote in the proportional district of the House of Councillors had to be for a party, lists were closed. Since the 2001 election there is the option to cast a preference vote for a single candidate instead, the vote then counts for both the party in the allocation of proportional seats to party lists, as well as the candidate in the ordering of party lists. From 2001 to 2016, the system was a most open list system: The ranking of candidates on a party list strictly followed the number of preference votes. This ranking also applies to the runner-up replacements in case of vacancies."

Unlike most of the old geriatrics Mr Higashitani is trying to earn a living and has no need to snooze or pick his ear wax out by attending Gikai meetings
