Define reputable source. US lefty media only, CNN, MSNBC, etc? Or does Fox News count also?

Fox news? That is an opinion service not a news service. BBC? DW? Reuters?

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

If it goes accordingly, Russia will eventually fight the countries carrying out the sanctions.

By the way - interesting idea. Today the big war in Europe is only a nightmare, but the things could change very quickly. For example Poland has some intentions toward west Ukraine (old Polish provinces) and moblize army and send out 45 Russian diplomats.

lets hope that at least in Japan common sense will prevail even when big pressure from whitehouse is very imminent

Good idea. After this war, which Mr Zelenskiy gona to lose Russia still be neighbours of Japan. In short - time pass and it will be no Mr Zelensky as president, but Russia still be near Japan.

@Pukey2

As I thought, deflection. what about him? what about her? what about that?

Him who? Her who? That what?

Russian anti Zelensky propaganda has no basis in fact and needs no answer other than its a lie, to deflect from Putin and now your trying to use deflection as a defense. Cant even be original.

Come up with something of substance with reputable sources and links rather than just crap. Maybe then you will deserve an answer other than "it's a lie".

Zelensky took total control of the press in Ukraine,

I believe your talking of Putin in Russia taking control of their media and banning freedom of reporting.

and he banned the opposition party (or should I say all eleven of them).

Yes, he banned pro Russian parties during a Russian invasion. A prudent tactical move to stop sensitive information being passed to the enemy.

While I'm here, can somebody explain where all of Zelensky's hidden money came from?

Again you must be talking of Putin. Zelensky was an entertainer and may be due royalties on his work which is now on netflix and getting viewed around the world. Zelensky is not rich, but Putin is Richie Rich rich.

WHY does he not appeal to America???

He has, and more than once. Wake up.

Why does the leader of Ukraine need a suit?

If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

What’s the end game of the Ukrainian President? Yes, Putin is evil but Zelenskyy is not without faults. He seems to be just begging countries for money, weapons and sanctions against Russia! The Ukrainian military is just hiding behind civilians and doing hit and run strategies to hold back the Russian military! It’s working out well for them until now but will not last forever. So far Russia hasn’t used its weapons fully so the day isn’t far that Putin will authorize more missiles to be fired, nuclear weapons or chemical weapons as well because there is no chance that he will stop the invasion and accept defeat! Ukrainian Government needs to compromise to some extent to avoid an all out war. One thing is for sure that nobody wins in the end as more people will die! The world is on the brink of a nuclear war because of the stubbornness of not only Putin, but also Zelenskyy and the Western leaders who have been putting fuel on the fire by constantly bashing Putin instead of being more diplomatic to find a solution! The sanctions and bashing of Putin will only make him angrier and authorize the use of nuclear weapons! Mark my words that day isn’t far away!

I am sure he aware and know how the US responded to Japan’s invasion into Manchuria.

It is what it is Russia (Japan) invades Ukraine (China) then the US (US) sanctions / embargoes Russia (Japan) leading to Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor.

If it goes accordingly, Russia will eventually fight the countries carrying out the sanctions.

Agree. I still think it was a cheap shot.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Who knows. There are enough cheap suits on show in that photo, anyhow.

That's not the point, you know.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Very innapropriate and inconsiderate reminder to make the comparison

Perhaps Zelenskyy is unaware of the sanctions that were imposed on Japan prior to pearl harbor.

I wasn't impressed with his veiled references to Fukushima Daichi nuclear power plant, the tsunami of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and the Aum Shinrikyo sarin attack of 1995, especially after invoking Pearl Harbor during his address to US lawmakers in Congress.

Would it not be better for Ukraine if he just agrees to make it neutral & be at peace with Russia?

there is a reason so many ex warsaw pact countries have joined nato and shifted to liberal democractic values in stark contrast to the post-societ system, and why ukraine wants to forge closer ties to the west - they dont want to be under the russian heel any more.

unless you like watching dissent being muzzled, airlines forced down over airspace, rigged referendums, a putin lackey presiding over the country for his own/putin's good....

I dont claim to know all the facts, but the root cause of this is because ukraine has for centuries been trodden on by russian power, and a decade ago the people shed blood to kick out yet another pro-russian stooge. why would they accept another stooge after all this.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

He's got no sense of public opinion, he's addressing to lawmakers directly and this should be a habit coming from a past full of Soviet totalitarian ism. Thanks

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Zelensky doesn't have a suit?

-14 ( +6 / -20 )

WHY does he not appeal to America??? He is a bit slow, besides sanctions just hurt normal people.

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

lets hope that at least in Japan common sense will prevail even when big pressure from whitehouse is very imminent...

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Squeeeezzze Russia until it’s head pops off!

0 ( +12 / -12 )

Zelenskyy appeals to Japan for more sanctions against Russia:

Why must he go all over to western countries & their allies appealing or begging for aids & sanctions against Moscow?

Would it not be better for Ukraine if he just agrees to make it neutral & be at peace with Russia?

Is he aiming to get a bogus Nobel Peace Prize..?

0 ( +12 / -12 )

Zelensky as an ex-comedian/actor will say all the words the countries he does he speech in need to hear.

Anyways, proposing to have more sanctions = propose for Japan to shoot itself in the foot. Probably not gonna happen.

-3 ( +12 / -15 )

Compared to 70 year old Putin who hide behind a long desk and do a 60s Soviet style propaganda rallies Zelensky know his audience and use all the technological advances of a modern world to get his message across the board to the American, European and Japanese politicians. What is important is that the Japanese publics can watch this over youtube and across social media and will have a sympathetic/positive opinions towards Ukraine.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

former ukrainian tarento.so yes he did job he can do best.

do you have idea who is this guy,who surronds him?

does anyone here cares why Russia did that action?or will we keep same narratibe\ve Ukraine is good and innocent honest and Russia is bad for everything?

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

It is a bit infuriating that Zelenskyy mentioned comparing the Ukraine crisis with pearl harbor and other conflicts of the past.

Very innapropriate and inconsiderate reminder to make the comparison.

Perhaps Zelenskyy is unaware of the sanctions that were imposed on Japan prior to pearl harbor.

Sanctions are themselves an act of financial war !

2 ( +14 / -12 )

I think Japan’s response has been appropriate for a non-European entity. Similar to China’s responses, not sure offhand about Korea.

Japan has expressed solidarity with Ukraine and provided it with humanitarian assistance and non-lethal military equipment such as bulletproof jackets, binoculars and medical equipment.

Humanitarian aid that helps those who need it the most, while remaining free of any accusations of providing arms or lethal force.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

War aside, Does anyone know what kind of government Zelensky runs? Is there freedom of the press, and what he did to the opposition party before the war? Just asking

I wonder if many people are deadly poisoned, missing or assassinated on the Ukrainian side (some attacks are even beyond borders). Has the Kyiv ever grounded or shot down "dissent" commercial airplanes? Are there Ukrainian athletes who continue to get away with doping tests? Has President Zelensky been popular enough to get elected with more than 140 % turnouts? Just asking.

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

I sincerely hope Japan's Diet doesn't follow through with Zelenskyy's wishes for more anti Russia movement.

Zelenskyy is asking Japan to stop all trade with Russia to pressure pressure Moscow into peace ?- ridiculous - !

This would be absolutely terrible for Japan's regional security and economic situation.

I think Japan has done "more than enough" to help Zelenskyy and the Ukraine crisis .

It would be more prudent for Japan to just observe before making anymore moves.

Japan has self imposed enough problems for itself already.

Zelenskyy has disrespectfully criticized the United Nations and NATO but praises Japan.

Zelenskyy wants the whole of Europe to be in demise and now Asia also ???

All for Ukraine ?

It's not worth it .

Enough is Enough !

zoroto:

There are plenty of Ukrainian oligarchs.

Here's a pretty mainstream link to learn about them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_oligarch

That may be so, but you didn't address what I wrote. The guy has surrounded himself with 'very rich' men and has become 'fairly' rich himself. I'd love to know more about his offshore accounts.

Dave:

War aside, Does anyone know what kind of government Zelensky runs? Is there freedom of the press, and what he did to the opposition party before the war? Just asking

Dave, you're going to have to explain to the laymen because most people here only rely on western mainstream media. Zelensky took total control of the press in Ukraine, and he banned the opposition party (or should I say all eleven of them).

While I'm here, can somebody explain where all of Zelensky's hidden money came from? You know, the money exposed by the Pandora papers. This money started even before he became America's preferred 'president'. If he were a Russian national, he'd be called an oligarch.

-6 ( +13 / -19 )

He did not mention Hiroshima or Nagasaki for the Japanese Diet, while he did mention Pearl Harbor for the American Diet. This was not welcomed here.

5 ( +18 / -13 )

Dave, do you know? Just asking!

1 ( +13 / -12 )

Saw a chart which showed only 22% of Japanese companies operating in Russia have suspended operations, and none have pulled out. It’s all half-measures as usual.

3 ( +17 / -14 )

It's nice to know that Japan is trying really hard to look like they care about people from other countries. Nice.

8 ( +23 / -15 )

Saw it in the TV news. The people in that room were really old, and looked most worried about their evening shopping at Mitsukoshi Ginza than about foreign issues.

13 ( +27 / -14 )

Tell him, he's dreaming!

-10 ( +17 / -27 )

No mention of Pear Harbor. At least the Ukrainian president knew who he was making his address to.
