For anyone unfamiliar, the "Go To" campaign is an intended restart of the Japanese economy from the national government, offering substantial discounts on travel inside Japan. As planned, only residents of Japan (including foreign residents) are eligible.

If it needs to then Golden Week seems a good time.

It's just a bribe with interest added on later though

I would prefer a return to the visa-free status for visitors from the USA.

instead of wasting money for Go To something campaigns use money more wisely and provide to these in real need/say elder people, people with dissabilities or families with young children/ and stop to sponsor JTB and other crooks by our tax payers money!

Not Golden Week, its already busy at that time but just after. I had some great trips hugely discounted by the government last time. Just put it on the national debt for the next generation to pay....

Absolutely not.

No, no need for Golden Week. Hotels will have bookings anyway. It would be better to focus on getting them bookings at quieter times.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Definitely not, please think of human lives not commercial needs. We do not need Corona virus all over again.

Restarting GoTo on GW or re-starting it at all? No way!

We already saw with H.I.S. swindling its way by 600 Mio JPY illegal money how things are being handled and that "revenge buying" (or travelling for that matters) is just a media buzzword.

Put the money where it's really needed: supporting businesses instead of fattening corporate moral bankruptcy.

BTW, how did the H.I.S. mess end up? Arrests? Hefty fines? I must have missed it in the news (#sarcasm)

It'll get restarted, cases of Coronavirus will go up, and foreigners will wrongly get the blame.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

If people want to travel, they will travel.

& they can pay for it themselves - They don’t need subsidies

Our tax money can be better utilised

No thank you.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

What? And risk a 7th wave of COVID?

No, thanks.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Yes, let's hit the road. Let's stop just existing and start living again.

Take off the masks, stop treating yourself and everyone else like a health hazard, stop living in a faceless, emotionless, dystopian COVID-obsessed hell.

For the love of God, this virus has a near-100% survival rate for most people. It's weakened now to the point where it's only slightly more dangerous than the flu.

And most people who do die with it (WITH it, as opposed to OF it) are, in age, north of the average national life span.

Start living like freaking human beings again already.

@Hakman,

If you want to travel, pay for it yourself, don't expect the rest of us to have to pay for you.

Yes, its time to restart life and forget about the last couple of years

I think they should make the expressways free and just charge every driver in Japan a little extra on their insurance. However, in order to prevent major traffic jams, the express ways would be free only on certain days for drivers. Make it free for seniors during the week for example. I think you would see an economic boost and more travel tourism. The biggest boost however would be if they open the floodgates on immigration. If Japan is going to go from 125 mil to 100 mil in 30 years, its gunna have to let in more than 5k per year.

I accidentally typed in yes when I meant no. Hope the mods can fix that error.

No don't start it. We are nowhere near out of the woods yet

excellent post

BTW, you don't need a go to travel campaign in golden week anyway. That's just retarded. People are going to travel regardless of whether that is going on or not. IF they were going to start it they should start it the week after GW not during. But I would suggest they not restart it at all

No subsidies. The economy and the people that make it up, must adjust to current realities. Bedding in unviable businesses serves no one’s interests in the long term - except certain politicians’, perhaps.

Talk about a nation that never learns!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yes, of course, getting back a very small bit of the beforehand paid own tax money is always welcomed, isn’t it?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Just for Golden Week, and then we can close again.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I agree with CanonFolder just for a Golden Week so everyone can travel freely and then we can close everything up again. I think one month should be enough.

@THOMAS R MOUNTCASTLE

I would prefer a return to the visa-free status for visitors from the USA.

And the UK

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

No. Waste of money considering the bloating debt of the government.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Do not subsidise leisure travel.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Please do not start another pandemic.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Golden week and similar public holidays are a stressful, overcrowded farce.

If they aren't mandated passive aggressive, unproductive Taro won't let productive Yumiko take time off.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Instead of wasting it on GoTo campaign to subsidize people who,ll travel anyway in spring....give it to the disabled kids welfare programs whose budget was cut by the LDP...there is an article about it on JT today.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If they want to help the floundering tourism industry they should restart "Go-To". However, if they would open the border to tourists they wouldn't need to bother and could accept some foreigner money.

Go to spread BA2. Bad idea.
