If you do not live in Japan, once the country reopens its international borders without restrictions, would you like to visit?

We've been waiting to take our kid to visit his grandparents for 2 years. We'd been taking him every year prior. We could still get into Japan, but we just don't want to sit around in the house for 10 days of quarantine without visiting friends/onsen etc. so it's a little bit on us, I suppose.

I was in Tokyo in February 2020 and am waiting to take the first of my usual six yearly trips to Japan.

I would like to, but I don't expect it to happen.

Wishful thinking, considering the JGov's reluctance to accept foreign visitors and its extremely destructive habit of printing money and promoting GoTo. Japan is more isolated now than I've ever seen it, and I feel sorry for my many friends and their young families that can do nothing about it.

its too early to reopen borders.

its not about situation in Japan.

its about situation abroad.

better wait more.when sitaution abroad will improve.

Would love to visit family for cherry blossom next year but have difficulty believe japan will open up by then sadly

It's cool people want to come to Japan but if you think travel, or life for that matter will ever be the same, oh boy you're in for a shock. Life will never be the same and 'travel without restriction' is now a thing of the past, I hope y'all like the country you're stucked in and are not too attached to family overseas.

I miss Hokkaido. It has been 3 years. Usually I visit Hokkaido every 2 years.

@Japan Today

Could you make an option so that people can see results ? I could be interesting for people to know it even if they are not among people voting.

Borders should remain closed at least until the Northern Hemisphere winter is over. The current demonstrations in Europe and their citizens lack of responsibility to vaccinate should preclude everybody from entering unnecessarily Why risk it? The HUGE uptick in domestic tourism being witnessed now (try and book a weekend at a domestic hotel) , coupled with a complete lack of overseas tourism means no need for it.

I agree with El Rata - even when the borders open, it ain't gonna be for the unjabbed for a LONG time

One upside to closing off the borders to overseas tourists is much shorter lines at ski runs in Hokkaido.

Not sure how quickly borders will open as that is driven more by politics than science, probably will open to some countries first rather than a general opening.

Staycations have become much more the norm in many countries as well as Japan for obvious reasons, and that is actually a good thing as we come out of the pandemic from an economic point of view (not so good for people wishing to see family though).

Yes El Rata, I am more than happy with the country I am “stuck” in. As to freedom of travel, as the airline industry is such a major economic enabler yes we will go back to freedom of travel though there may well be a staged approach requiring proof of vaccination for some countries to start with, but as the world becomes vaccinated/immune that will pass.

Had the flights booked and rebooked for the past 2 years. Hoping they'll open up to us double and booster vaccinated foreigners in the spring - but not holding my breath.

After a visit a year, from March 2011 until 2017, I don't think so. Fifteen thousand photos are enough. Three Japanese families I have very special connections with, and I can still say I don't think so.

Japan's government will not allow even double-vaxed tourists from Canada for at least two years, but probably three or more. There's a lot more of the world to explore and interesting places to make more and equally as fun and appreciative lifelong friends.

If visitors are fully vaccinated, I don't see why they don't open the boarders.

Until predictability extends beyond a few weeks, it’s not worth the effort and grief, strong reasons withstanding

I can't wait, it's been more than 2 years, the first thing I do is go to Dotour for their breakfast menu and to visit Haimurabushi in kohamajima.....

Sure I'd love to, but it's too late. Omicron variant says no and would present an undue level of travel risk as well as even more quarantine time.

My wife hasn’t seen her young adult kids for two years and I have a lot of friends I want to visit.

My wife is a Japanese citizen and I'm a U.S. citizen. We live in Hawaii, but bought a condo in Japan 16 years ago. I never bothered getting a spousal visa because our visits were two months at a time. I now have been unable to go to Japan for two years. Is that fair?

Sounds frustrating @PaulTakenaka 4:40pm. To better understand your plight: kids, grandkids? In the 14 years prior to pandemic, how many times did you visit; and, did you ever stay over 60, 90, 180 days?

With covid the way things are going right now, its not a good time to visit. The government needs business work to come in, but too many coming in for leisure is still too dangerous.

Omicron detected in Ottawa Ontario today. More cases expected. It's already around the world.
