Under the current labor system in Japan, companies are required to keep employees who wish to continue working after retirement age until at least the age of 65. The government wishes to raise the ceiling to 70. Do you think that is a good idea?

More importantly, I think members of the Diet should be forced to live under the same conditions for the general public created by the laws they pass. They should all summarily have their salaries halved the month they turn 60 and face the possibility of losing even that job, while still unable to start collecting a pension for another 5 years.

Yes. considering that the Japanese are living longer than anyone else AND that the population is ageing at an accelerated rate, I'd say its imperative, not just a good idea.

Same salary and should be able to collect their pension at the same time. In Canada many people retire collect their pensions take a little time off and go back to work. Employer's are good with this because they are having a hard time to fill those jobs.

In my point of view,I don't think so the efficiency would be the same, People lives not only to work and they need time for them.

Good idea, taj! USA congress should have to do the same, use same health insurance as us regular people who they look down on, same retirement, and term limits.

I am the same as the poster above. I will never be able to afford to retire, so I need to be able to earn money until I drop dead, probably in the office.

When I retire I will have paid 25 years worth of pension contributions into the system. You'd think I'd get something back??

The pension system is a shambles and it would not surprise me if they turned to me at 65 and said " sorry bud, we ain't got it to give you"

Um, where I was the last two years till 65 would have been at 60% salary at 63 years old.

In Australia, in 2013-14, the new government moved to have a staggered increase of retirement age to get pension to 70, saying 'The age of entitlement is over'. That policy has quietly been dropped - a good idea for a government doing very little to support or encourage employment of older people (over 45s).

Japan has been fundementally different to that, with space for old people to work, even if menial, manual and lowly remunerated. Moreover, lots of people in Japan have work as 'something to do'.

Finally the idea to put something happening at 65 to around 70 could come simply as a solvency measure to a government that even now is beoming stretched supporting the aging population.

I would not enter that except if salary follows high. French system is so generous that my parents are having great times like many seniors. They spend a lot in many fields to make run the economyand contribute a lot to have their neighborhood lively.

You should have the choice to retire with enough pension, not everyone is able (physically and/or mentally) to follow until 70 !

I don't think so. i would rather ask the government that "do you think people more than 70 years old have lower risk of driving large truck or operating airplanes?" Ministers are just sitting and sleeping in a meeting, so they can work there until 70 years old.

Yes. At least there might be less older people driving dangerously on the roads. Their minds are still active, why not put it to good use.
