I'm better off in the sense that my savings and investments have gained in value, so my net worth is more than it was a year ago.

I'm worse off in that my salary has slid downward quite a bit, and being one year older, I'm that much less marketable if I had to look for another job.

No. Not even close.

Employed now as opposed to unemployed then.

Skill? No, got lucky!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Yeah. But only by about a thousand yen. Meh, I’ll take it.

My 401 K increased nearly 30 precent, a job promotion and two pay raises in 2019 with another one scheduled for next Spring. Yes, this past year has been very, very good to me.

Had I owned stocks yes, but I recall 2001 and 2007 and stock market wealth can evaporate overnight.

This has not been a good year for me, not at all. Heart problems, got hurt by a hit and run driver in Dublin. Lastly I got released from my job. Zodiac years are suppose to be "lucky", :p So to answer the question, I am not at all better off.

Just checked my account... 6 whole yen interest for the whole year! Suggestions welcome on how to spend it.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Yes, and 2020 will be even better.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I am,but can never take it for granted.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yes. Retired and well off mentally, physically and financially.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

On paper yes...

Net worth went up, but monthly saving ratio went down, big projects coming, I'll keep doing my best and let God/Luck/Fate/Whatever do the rest.

Foreigners in Japan make on average 8 million yen a year it is said, at least in Tokyo. My salary shot up in 2019, so yes it was a very good year for me, people I know and most foreigners in Japan

My salary increased by approximately 25 percent. Stocks went up, as did almost all in Japan. Yes, 2019 was a brilliant year financially. In 2020, investing in Japan is the place to make money.

Got a decent raise with another promised in a few months so yeah, I'm doing alright.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Nope. Between losing a big client last year, as well as a few hefty one-off payments, this year I'm down on last year.

Given my employer of 18 years let all non-Japanese staff go the last day of March 2018, rather than make them permanent on the 1st April as the law required, things were looking pretty grim this time last year.

A long long year of scrabbling and hard work has made things marginally better. I'm still not at the level of financial security I was hoping for in my mid-50s, though. As long as I remain in good health, my family has a fighting chance.

An odd and intrusive question. I do wonder if these kind of topics are anything to do with data harvesting?

Still, one for the capitalists and nouveau riche to boast about their wealth, no doubt.

Money isn't everything.

What is with the downvotes for people's success? I guess some folks are jealous of hard work?

one for the capitalists and nouveau riche to boast about their wealth,

I've been at the same company for 3 years without a raise in pay. I finally got a boss with some backbone and was recognized by the owner of the company for my work. I'm comfortable, but I'm still firmly in the middle class. Sorry if you think that is boasting about my 'wealth'.

Money isn't everything.

No, but it sure helps.

Money isn't everything.

No, but it sure helps.

Stocks went up, as did almost all in Japan.

What?

In 2020, investing in Japan is the place to make money.

Unverifiable nonsense.

@blvtzpk

Unverifiable nonsense.

What planet do you live on?

I'm way better off financially, largely through big gains in my securities investments in Japan and in my home country. Hence, I'm not as critical of Abe-san nor of Trump as many others. LOL.

Thank you for some evidence.

The previous poster is notorious for making great claims with little or no support.
