Are you making fewer phone calls than you used to, preferring instead email, texting, FaceTime, Snapchat or other social media?

I haven't made a call this year. Changed my plan to pay for individual calls.

I don't prefer but others are the ones sending messages instead of calling or answering their phones.

A simple question like do you want to meet for dinner can result in a 20 short message texting when a simple phone call of a minute or two max would have done the Job

Instead we get:

A: do you want to meet for dinner?

B: sure

A: what time

B: how about 6:00

A: no can't make seven how about 7:30.

B: not too late how about 7:00

A: 7:00 ok.

B: where do you want to go.

A; how about XYZ

B: no don't feel like XYZ how about DEF..

Etc....

No first message was sent at 12:23.

Reply at 13:05 reply to that 13:34 , the reply to that was 13:45, the reply to that 14:40......

By the time they set their plan and make the final arrangements it has been 2 or 3 hours since the original question was asked.

A phone call all that could have been done in a 2 minute max conversation.

Been surviving the last two months without a phone number and relaying on wi-fi everywhere I go and I can say it is doable.

It's easier for me to use other social media texting and email as my hearing has got worse over time and many times difficult to hear someone correctly over phone.

Only use phone if other aids are not avaulable.

I still rely on making phone calls since not everyone will have their mobile data on or have their apps on mute.

I am older, many video calls overseas, fewer locally, so not a good person to ask.

Better to ask who still use FB or WhatsApp -lots of channels coming and going in the social media world

LINE works the best for me.

As a teacher and a guide I'm not supposed to be making calls, so I mostly text, either with my phone or my watch.

This!

Yes, but this is a change I made many years ago now......

A friend often calls me. He tells me he hates texting. I am the opposite. I have always avoided phone calls. Thus the above question does not seem to apply here.

Antiquesaving: "A simple question like do you want to meet for dinner can result in a 20 short message texting when a simple phone call of a minute or two max would have done the Job"

Are you nuts? I know a guy who REFUSES to text, and it took nearly five minutes by phone to let me know he was at the meeting place when an "I'm here" text would have taken exactly two seconds. And that's just for starters. Phone calls are such an ENORMOUS waste of time, not to mention having to hold the device up to your ear or crane your neck (unless you're one of those annoying people who puts it on speaker phone in public), and the potential for miscommunication is always there, too (I know that can happen with auto-correct in texting and what not, or with insecure people who need emoji). And finally, a phone call requires real-time interaction when it is often less than ideal for one party, if not both. A text does not always require an immediate reply or interaction.

I never answer phone calls if I know the person can text or I don't know the number. Never. Well, if it's someone from overseas and I suspect an emergency, or if the call keeps coming, or I am expecting it, I might. There is very little more annoying than a phone call these days.

Meant to add... if we are talking video chats that is an in-between, gray area.
