Seats are too small and too close. The size needs to be regulated.

It's usually OK. I like airports and have found the staff at them, and cabin crew to be nice, helpful people (UK and Japan).

I'm not a fan of online/self service/app-based boarding procedures. Have a real live human staff member option for older folk like me.

I'd prefer it if the seat in front of me didn't tilt back so far, leaving me wedged in a tiny claustrophobic gap.

The vegan meals are very much appreciated, but maybe less potent. They are often quite strongly flavoured. Let people add relishes and condiments if they want them.

A bit more space for feet and cabin baggage would be good. We travel with more tech than we used to, and some of us have long legs.

Don't let drunks on, and don't let people drink too much during a flight.

But after getting injured courtesy of a bad landing, I'll settle for arriving alive and in one piece. After all, there are limits to how pleasant we can expect 12 hours in a seat, with engine noise can be.

Yes very happy. I gotten to every destination alive. Plus the on board amusement. When passengers awake with their blow-up pillow cocked around this head it all sorts of positions and hair styles.

Most LCCs are terrible and their only concern is their bottom line.

It is part of the adventure, I suppose. Lesser traveled flights and schedules might have less drama in the ways discussed but make up for it in other ways.

I'm satisfied. We can get to the other side of the planet in less than a day for short money. We're in the small sliver of human history where that's possible, and we shouldn't;t take that for granted. It's a bus with wings. Bring your snacks, bring your book, and hunker in.

For what it's worth, Air France has the worst food in coach. Who'd have thought. Still, I can get to France in 6 hours so they can serve cat food for all I care.

I feel like it is getting worse overall. More airlines seem to be getting stingy with the drinks. I like to have a window seat to see outside but some airlines seem to be increasingly insisting we close the shades (or if B787, doing it centrally) all flight! Some airlines or some airports now have you check in your own baggage using machines. Somehow I balk at having to attach a tag to my bag myself. What next? We carry it to the plane?

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Absolutely not. Starting from check-in treating you like a criminal, same as passport control where they take your mug shot and finger prints (Japan) ;

Then when you are in the plane, seats are ridiculously small and cramped. There is no consideration for passanger comfort what so ever. Not everybody can pay ridiculously ammount of money for 1st or Business Class.

Plane confort is by far the worst from all other means of transportation.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

No, I'm not satisfied. Starting with the price they charge us for the tickets.

Seats are too small and too close. The size needs to be regulated.

Even more so when the passenger comes from countries where obesity is normalized.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Mostly, but it depends on the airline. JAL and ANA have been excellent in my experience, and that's only with economy class, in terms of seat size, legroom, and assistance when travelling with a young child. They're not the cheapest, but not uncompetitive in most sectors. Food is OK for economy, entertainment not too bad but I don't use it that much except for the maps.

Qantas and Virgin are pretty blasé and I wouldn't use them unless there's no other choice.

LCCs - you get what you pay for and if expectations are kept low, they're not too bad.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Even more so when the passenger comes from countries where obesity is normalized.

Almost as bad as those where nauseatingly bad hygiene is normalized. Several dictatorships spring to mind.

"Are you satisfied with the service the airline industry generally delivers on planes and at airports?"

Not all airlines are the same, some have great customer service from the initial contact till landing at wherever going, including food, seating arrangement, great cabin attendants etc. But some airlines are plain and simple Greyhound on Air. Poor customer service, bad food, and uncaring cabin attendants.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

LCC's offer very low prices, so there is basically no service, but that is fine . If you want better service, you have to spend more. Just like basically any other service industry.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No! Bad all around, especially Air Canada! Ticket price up even higher than when the fuel was higher, they now charge for the most basic thing like reserving a seat in economy, and you have to pay more for any seat even 1/2 cm bigger or more leg room.

For would be called cruelty to animals if you fed it to your dog, service is non existent, they raised the cost in everything even though fuel cost is lower and now only permit one checked bag , which is interesting seeing weight is the excuse but a 40kg woman gets 10kg carry-on 23kg checked and her purse but a 200kg person also gets the same 10kg, 23kg and purse/briefcase and if they sit that person next to you and they are 1/3 in your seat and can't put the armrest down, you had better not complain because your will be threatened with being removed.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I think it's fine over all, sure LCC has no service and look to nickle and dime you at every corner but you get what you pay for. I see it as giving customer a choice / target pricing. Though it was maddening to get charged 100 bucks cus I didn't check-in online in advance (how are you supposed to refute or refuse that?).

Food is shyt most of the time but an expected meh, nothing to call home about imo.

But considering what the industry does as a whole, fine.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I find the whole culture around airports and flying utterly abhorrent.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I almost always use ANA, and they're terrific.

Also means that the majority of passengers are Japanese, meaning that you can place a fairly substantial bet that the flight will be civilised, without entitled pricks making idiots of themselves.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Generally speaking, with most Asian airliners and with Airbus, I have almost zero complaints, but with Boeing and US air carriers, I have a lot of problems with them. American service is just sadly one of the worst from not being on time to the hygiene and cleanliness of the plane, the attitude of the flight attendant and then you have every now and then if you are (un)lucky, some crazed lunatic that goes nuts.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I only fly ANA so I am always satisfied.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Satisfied, not really, no.

Going to Europe costs at least 60% more than it did fifteen years ago, for worse service and a longer flight thanks to the Ukraine war. This might not matter in countries where wages have gone up 60%, but they have not in Japan.

The entertainment is better, I'll give them that.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

In Japan, quite OK, a service ethic.

Other places, various.

LCCs - bottom line. BUT, recently Cathay Pacific using stupid self-check in facilities with enough staff to man check in counters, instead duplicating the work which unfamiliar customers can’t complete themselves. Maybe bottom line is safe but the brand image suffers.

Btw, immigration processes in Japan with finger prints and face recognition are not airlines’ fault. Rather, blame the government if you like blaming.

People here seem to feel their voyage startscwhen they reach destination.

travel from door to door used to be an exciting experience. Personally ivtravelled ghe world since i became 16 but always in style. Never been on a camping or backpack. Never economy after my 18th. Only first class on train or boats. Which is very rare as i like only planes or cars. No bussesxeither.

I always fly business or not at all even shorthaul. I fly less now as the airport experiences deteriorate constantly and rapidly.

mostly even business class is not up to standard anymore.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

The Japanese airlines at least - yes.

Only business or higher nowadays usually ANA, and a full flat wide bed and lots of pillows, bottle of good vino and a nice steak for dinner. JAL is equally as good but i usually go ANA.

ANA suite lounge is quite chilled out too.

Flew Emirates last year long hail and that wasn't bad, but I don't think it comes close to the Japanese carriers.

Cathay is down the gurgler they are cost cutting so much and it's horrible nowadays.

Virgin has turned to rubbish since Singapore Airlines sold their 49% stake to Delta. BA is pathetic. Air France is a mess.

The US carriers (American, Delta, United) are even worse and are a total joke, worst in the world I reckon. Pikey Air.

Plane comfort is the worst from all forms of travel, even if ironically, takes the longest too.

But greed, greed never changes for those Flight companies.
