Happy Day
"Follow the science"...or at least they used to say that. Vaccinated, quarantined, and tested visitors have a ZERO chance of transmitting the virus. Better to fill the stands with these visitors than un-vaccinated Japanese.
Kabukilover
If nothing else, Permanent Residents of Japan (a legal title) should be allowed to go to the Olympics after providing proof of vaccination--like Japanese fans.
Kyakusenbi_Arimasu
Yes, I don't agree to disagree. Of course. That is why I voted in this poll.
Pukey2
Not to mention the fact that the Japanese themselves can also pass on the virus. Or am I missing something? I'm going nowhere near the games.
Pukey2
Where's the other option - cancel the games.
Robert Cikki
Yes, but that is not what the situation is about. The situation is that foreign spectators/fans can't come here, but on the other hand, Japanese citizens who are residing in a foreign country can come here without any problem. Imagine a foreign citizen and a Japanese citizen who are married. They are taking the same airplane and one of them will not be allowed to enter Japan due to corona spreading.
I'd understand if our dear government completely closed down our country for anyone incoming OR testing people, but this is just a half solution. Heck, it's not even a "solution". It's just another erratic move
PerformingMonkey
Because you can still be a carrier of the virus.
GdTokyo
I only voted no because I disagree with the decision to hold a super-spreader event in a pandemic in the first place.
If there were a way to screw these games up more, I bet the JOC will find a way.
Toasted Heretic
I think it's a good idea to keep those from super spreader hot spots out.

While I agree that it doesn't make much sense to bar vaccinated foreigners from entering but allowing non vaccinated citizens to congregate and spread the virus.
But I feel the logistics and manpower of handling the isolation and what to do if they are positive / require medical assistance on a large scale seems like a nightmare. I don't believe many have gone that route yet (no isolation), and I don't think would work if you are expecting a large influx of travellers. And the contact tracing, Burden on the medical system, spike in cases all while the Olympics is going on.
BlackFlagCitizen
I think you're asking the wrong question - I think most agree that the Olympics should not be held.
kyushubill
Doesn't affect my life one bit. Olympics have never meant anything to me.
The wasted tax money would have just gone to some concrete highway to nowhere or fat envelopes for lobbyists or corporate cronies anyway.

If Japan let "everyone " in then Japan would get every covid variant there is, vaccine or no vaccine you can still be a carrier.

WELL SAID!!!
They never do.
The policy makers here are all silver spooned blue bloods who have never worked a real day in their lives so how can we expect anything decent from them?
Nosa uyi
Anybody who has completed his or her vacation, should be allowed to come , since they will not be of high risk.
no visitors is like no Olympic
El Rata
No, I don't agree. They should be cancelled entirely. Why do they insist on having the masked, joyless games? There is nothing to celebrate.
englisc aspyrgend
No one has thought this ”policy” through logically or it would never have seen the light of day. If numerous posters above can see the logical fallacy in it then it either doesn’t say much for the intellect of the policy makers or it is an irrational and cynical ploy aimed at their own political base!

nandakandamanda: "A policy of "Which vaccination have you had, when and where, and can you prove it?" ....... does not seem to be practical or workable just yet."
So why are Japanese nationals allowed in despite that not being practical or workable, and isn't it moot since next to no one here has been vaccinated anyway? What are they going to say, "Oh? Well, you had the Phizer, did you? Well... we're sorry... but only 0.000001% of Japan has had it yet, so that makes you at higher risk of... ummm... spread... no wait... catching... no... hang on, let me check the excuse manual again"?
smithinjapan
Anyone, regardless of nationality, should be allowed in if they can prove they were vaccinated and adhere to quarantine measures. Saying they are banned for safety reasons but allowing non-vaccinated Japanese back in (without quarantine being mandatory, only voluntary), and allowing in athletes and sponsors, is proof it is not at all about safety.
Robert Cikki
Foreign spectators can bring the virus here, but returning Japanese citizens or permanent residents are allowed to come back into Japan and they are impossible to carry the virus? This move just doesn't make any sense. Sure, it may be popular and populistic, but that's all. It's just another way of how to say "double standard" without using those words.
nandakandamanda
If a decision has to be made now, under pressure of all the expectations, then better safe than sorry.
A policy of "Which vaccination have you had, when and where, and can you prove it?" ....... does not seem to be practical or workable just yet.

Japan has almost 3 million foreign residents. The Japan Olympic Committee should give them special access to the events, such as discounted tickets. This would confer upon the Games a much more international atmosphere, fill the stands to a greater degree, and give the overseas athletes the support of their fellow citizens.
Beer4Me
I want the Olympic games canceled in Japan. Its bad news and will bring more issues than good.
theFu
I don't know. It isn't a yes/no question. It is a "it depends" question.

Bad idea. Bad for business, bad for Japan bad for the Games
