It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell. - Gen William Tecumseh Sherman.

Secretary Mattis and his generals know this.. They wont let it get to that point.

I most certainly hope not, but have a suspicion that the US may make a move this coming spring. Something needs to be done. Boots on the ground will fair much better when the weather is more favourable. NK winters must be brutal.

With a leader like Kim Jong-Un, there will either be a conflict or North Korea will set off a very powerful Electro Magnetic Pulse (an atomic explosion in the upper atmosphere) that will knock out power grids and electronic devices/vehicles around the world.

Of course they will clash and very imminent! Neither side can back down and their leaders "Trump","Kim III" were very fragile that any compromising move will be sen as cowardice! Also it is a power play between U.S. CHINA and Russia these three countries cares their own stragetic interests rather than anything.

I do think much of media hopes there will be a war. I do not.

I anticipate the status quo will continue unless China decides to do something. The US isn't going to risk Seoul being shelled or worse. The pudgy Un knows his regime will end if he tries something stupid. The only country that can change this is China. And which way they want it to end I don't know.

I hope there is not a war, and if intelligent people are allowed to lead the discussion there won't be a war.

First of all, I think South Korea should get a bit more criticism. It is always presented as if they are " the good guys".  This is basically a 67 year old Korean domestic problem and about time they clean up their mess.  Without all the media attention, that would be a lot easier.

Second, Whatever one says of Kim and his father before him, they are the best politicians in the world. The blow hot and cold for decennia and everyone dances to their rhythm. Trump is the danger. Not the cause, but he is not intelligent enough to read the North Korean game as the South Koreans can. Of course Kim is a dictator but not a mad man.

The other problem is that the worlds leading nations have no leaders. Except for Putin and Merkel, possibly Xi. But the French President, the UK PM, Abe, Trump, they are weak, spineless individuals.

Trump was even to scared to go to the DMZ, citing bad weather. Funny that a few hundred journalists could make it there that same day.

In the end, reunification will happen, if history learns one thing is that blood and family can not be separated forever and the Koreans are very much one family. Germany the obvious example.

6 months no media coverage and the problem is solved, no one to play theater for. No tickets sold. Show over.

Isis would not have happened even 15 years ago for that very same reason. They could never have gotten the scale.

"Boots on the ground will fair much better when the weather is more favourable"

There will be enough South Korean boots to put on the ground after the pounding from the air if it comes to that.

While something like this is possible, N. Korea is not capable of this having neither the capabilities to build a bomb powerful enough and small enough nor a missile capable of climbing high enough into the atmosphere. The yield for such a device is huge.

I think only North Korea can instigate this, the US would avoid it at all costs.

But I certainly think NK CAN instigate it. The real question is; 'Why would they?'

Increasingly seems to me they are trying to starve them out.

When the war is over its really just the beginning under a unified Korea. North Korea is so far behind the curve in terms of education and skills compared to your average highly competitive South Korean. Its going to take at least a couple of decades for them to catch up. Any new Korean government is going to need a lot of financial support.

I don't know why Trump and South Korea doesn't show more goodwill by making a song and dance out of humanitarian assistance in the form of food aid. America could easily win some low hanging fruit as brownie points by supporting such a move. They could do with an image boast. Maybe its impossible right now?

Also I imagine its highly likely that such aid would be stolen to keep the ruling North Korean elite well feed in order to retain loyalty.

Its a war of attrition and its one North Korea simply cannot win.

Of course the US will start a war. You’ll see.

The America people have been programmed by the government-controlled media to love war. They march to wars, believing lie after lie by the government and military contractors.

Look at the number of wars and military operations the US has been involved with since the end of the Korean War. The list is relentless.

North Korea hasn’t been in one.

What does North Korea want anyway? Ask that to any American and you’ll get a blank stare because the press doesn’t tell them.

If the US wanted war with North Korea, why would they wait until now?

The US tends to get involved where there is a vested interest in them doing so, namely resources and wealth creation for the state. Hegemony. It's a kind of cost V's reward equation.

In North Korea's case it's more difficult, more layered, more unpredictable. The destruction to South Korea would be considerable for a start. Then they are also playing right on China's border - this is fraught with potential problems between the 2 superpowers. China will definitely oppose it. If NK also attacks Japan, you have yet another regional superpower drawn into conflict.

I don't think they want that.
