Yes, only because I can't think of any other way that this will stop. I would be glad if greenpeace's politic approach has worked or if there's a hope that way. Unfortunately there's no way Japanese whalers will stop. It's more like a issue with their pride. Unfortunately Seasheperd is the only hope at the moment. Interrupting the hunt and make it unprofitable. I can only hope noone gets hurt.
Japanese always say "resepect our culture and leave us alone." but they fail to see that there are so many people in the world, thinking whales are godly creatures. Any other nation would feel that it doesn't worth pissing this many people off, just because some old people wants to have variety in their dishes. But not Japan, they are too proud.
If the Greenpeace approach had any effect, I would prefer that. But since the debacle with the boxes full of 'cardboard' that they admitted sampling to make sure it was really whalemeat(?!) they don't seem to be doing anything, certainly nothing that is visible from where I am.
At least SS is keeping the slaughter in the public eye, and showing up the whalers for what they are.
Not in Japan, though - all the news coverage of the Ady Gil incident I've seen on local TV has been nothing but straight servings of the pap dished out by the icr. If that was all I knew of what was happening (which is the case with most Japanese people, especially those unable to access English-language news) I'd probably be feeling sorry for the poor widdle whalers just twying to do der job and pweserve Japan's unique culture down there in the Antartic where they don't even have four seasons.
"Yes, only because I can't think of any other way that this will stop"
... that probably means your point of view is wrong then if you have to use force to get people to behave and think the way you want them to.
This applies to almost anything up to how people are governed and ruled. Maybe you think you should rule the whole world and they should all be just like you???
(certainly people in the past thought that with their imperial conquests... but I pretty sure that has mostly gone out of acceptable fashion)
that probably means your point of view is wrong then if you have to use force to get people to behave and think the way you want them to.
It just means that I don't support the whaling and wishing for it to stop. Seasheperds actions can be better described as hastlement than violence. Their goal is to disrupt whaling, not hurting whalers. Latest news shows the length whalers would go to protect their ways. It shows that they are at least as bad as Seasheperd, when it comes to resorting to violence.
Maybe you think you should rule the whole world and they should all be just like you???
Not at all, I've been in this country for many years because I appreciate the uniqueness of the culture and the way they treat each other. Manners and honesty, just can't be compared to any other country. Especially when it comes with no fear of god or hell, one can do noting but admire.
Sea Shepherd are already considred Eco Terrorists. THey are on the same FBI list as ALF, the PETA affiliated group that bombed laboratories. Conducting illegal acts of violence for the purpose of achieving your
aims is what terrorism is all about. What those aims and beliefs are is
irrelevant. A great many people may by anti-whaling but a far far greater
number of people, including anti-whalers are against terrorism.
Supporting terrorism is like supporting racism or canibalism, the tables can turn against you and you or your loved ones could end being being the target. This whole monkey show has become an affront to both law and civil behavior and it's a matter of time till human life is lost.
@johnnyreb Yeah sure. Love hugging trees. You should try it. I very much agree with @Dilbert14. Japan is very much a great place to live. This whaling however is serving no one. Its eradication is just another step on the road to a sustainable society
It's only a matter of luck that human life wasn't lost last week.
Conducting illegal acts of violence for the purpose of achieving your aims is what terrorism is all about. What those aims and beliefs are is irrelevant.
Didn't the SM2 engage in an illegal act of violence in deliberately ramming another vessel, the aim being to stop them protesting about the actions of the whaling fleet? So why don't you call the whalers 'terrorists' in this instance? Or is it different when you agree with the aims and beliefs? Are the aims and beliefs only irrelevant when they're not aims and beliefs you support? If you really believe what you wrote, you should be condemning the actions of the SM2.
The only human life lost so far as been by the whalers, due to the whalers' own incompetence/disregard for safety practices.
Didn't the SM2 engage in an illegal act of violence in deliberately >ramming another vessel.
No. The SS vessel Ady Gil deliberately moved forward at the last moment
to cause the collision. This as part of the orchestrated SS "show".

One side is whaling. LEGALLY. Whether you like it or not. That is their sole pupose for being there. Your eco terrorist heroes are there for the sole self declared purpoes of harassing and interfering with their operations. This is ILLEGAL by the the laws of any civilized nations.
Frankly, the whalers have every right to defend themselvers from these SS
criminals and they have been very very restrained in their actions.
The FBI calls SS terrorists. No organization or law enforcement agency in the world calls the whalers "terrorists". When that situation changes, I will call them terrorists as well. Until then, I have my head on straight.
The only lioves that have been lost due to the whalers are whales. That's all they are there for. SS's actions make them responsible for any HUMAN
lives that may be lost as a result of their terrorist activities.
None of the actors are in the right. Both are in the wrong. A means to and end is not good per se. Making a mockery of what scientific research consists of is also very troubling in this scenario.
Both sides engage in outright lying and propaganda to achive their goals. eff both of them.
I do not support SS because SS use terrible violences to do what they want like child. Violence is violence, Crime is crime, Terrorists are terrorists, whatsoever,,,. SS have sinking many vessels all over oceans in the past. I'm sure to think these actions are terrorists. SS said "Whale War" days ago after AG incident but they have been doing war for many many many years as if they love war. Anyway FBI say SS are terrorist. That is enough to understand it.
Anyway FBI say SS are terrorist...interesting, if anybody seriously believe this then what stop America from bombing them to sink their ships? No ,they are just a bunch of illegal saboteurs.
That would be incorrect. One, the whalers, are complying with the LAW. That would make them RIGHT. There might be a need for the debate to, once again, address whaling as a whole, but for now... they are completely within their legal rights to do as they are. Difficult to call something "wrong" when doing that same thing is considered legal.
Do the anti-abortionists who bomb a clinic, even if nobody gets hurt because it's after hours, have any right to do so? After all, abortion is certainly more of a morality issue than whaling. Yet.... abortion is legal.
I understand that "legal" does not necessarily make something "right". Times change. Laws change. But, until they do... stupid things like putting your itty-bitty boat in front of a whaling vessel is asking for trouble.
First of all, I do NOT APPROVE of the "Harvesting" of Whales. I was FED Whale meat when I was in a HOSPITAL @ Shin-Otska (Tokyo; unknown to me, until I asked the nurse what it was), However:
These IDIOTS deserve exactly whatever happens to them. Any DUMB-Azz that puts a winnie sized boat in FRONT of a FULL SIZE ship, DELIBERATELY, deserves whatever happens to them.
Using violence to try to stop someone from doing something that you think is morally wrong, is also morally wrong. What's the point in lowering yourself to the same level as the perceived enemy? It solves nothing.
The only lioves that have been lost due to the whalers are whales
Not true. Three human lives have been lost so far, all three of them whalers and all three deaths due solely to the actions/incompetence of the whalers.
One crew member died in the fire on board the Nisshin Maru that left the ship dead in the water in January 2007.
Another crew member died in September 2007 when he was crushed in the conveyor that loads whale meat into the hold.
A third crew member was lost when he fell, jumped or was pushed overboard in January 2009.
Such a great show. I think it's about time to show what the whales are used for.
Show us what good comes out of the research, and how many whales are needed.
Or I can't help rooting for Japan like it's the World cup.
Nisshinmaru should start throwing bottles of Natto at the Steve Irwin. (Not dangerous)
We need to see the whalers fight back.
It's already a pretty good war, but somethings missing.
Not true. Three human lives have been lost so far, all three of them >whalers and all three deaths due solely to the actions/incompetence of >the whalers.
And what do you base this "due solely to the actions/incompetence of the whalers" on? Do you have the results of the cause-of-death investigations
for each of them? Or are you simply showing your utter disrespect for PEOPLE who lost their lives from accidents and occupational hazards?

Fine, just as long as you accept the fact you are abandoning reason the legal high ground in supporting Sea Shepherd and their tactics.

You should never encourage negative behavior. I cannot vote for either side, but the tactics used are flawed --> good for drama only.
