Do you think alliances like the G7, G20, the Global South, or even the United Nations do anything to stop wars and other conflicts around the world?

Laughable concept, any of these groups being anything but a well connected jobs program.

Depressingly, if you have an ally on the UN Security Council, you can get away with atrocities.

The real problem is that governments consider war to be an extension of politics, and never target each other. Cities can be trashed, civilians slaughtered, but no attempt is made to rapidly end a war by targeting an opposing government. They treat it as a game that can run for years as a means of social control. Everyone who is not a politician is an expendable gaming piece.

The First World War. The Second World War. Every war since. In my 70+ years, there hasn't been a single day on the planet when there wasn't a war and people dying.

Were you alive during the First World War?

Useless are these organizations.

Yes the disease called the treaty of versailles that ended the world war one still plagues this world today. Versailles, just hearing that treaty being spoken stirs up negative emotion in me and my family.

In the last century, more than 100 million were killed in major wars, many in terrible ways. Europe was at peace for 75 years until Russia invaded Ukraine. The head of the warmonger Putin raised his head.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

None of these are alliances (well, maybe the G7). As deliberating bodies they do a lot to stop wars.

Wouldn't solve the country with the current most egregious war, Russia, so you have to look harder.

I agree with the last part 100%. The invasion of sovereign Ukraine by fascist Russia is the biggest European war since WW2.

Sadly, since WW2, Europe has not been a peaceful continent. There have been civil wars, revolutions and enormous ethnic conflicts. Hundreds of thousands of war deaths. Up to 140,000 dead in the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s alone. Europe is an incredibly fractured and warlike region - I doubt very much there will ever be a time with no war in Europe. Hope I am wrong.

The answer is actually in my post.

wrong.

just go back in 90ies.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

Russia is the first country to invade a sovereign country in Europe since WW2.

I don't think any of these are alliances.

Russia is the first country to invade a sovereign country in Europe since WW2.

It is a pity no alliance could have stopped that.

The link below lists over 50 conflicts in Europe from the end of World War 2 to until Russia's invasion of eastern Ukraine.

Back on topic please.

They are parasiting, self serving organisations and the members only interests are expense accounts, todays menu and free travel

7 ( +10 / -3 )

I don’t know but perhaps they facilitate communication and allow wars to end quicker.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

@EASTMAN

And who started those wars?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Clearly no.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Talk fest groups. Nothing more.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

United Nations? More like Useless Nothing.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

On the contrary, they seem to be used to start war, especially NATO.

Still Putin's War

The answer is actually in my post.

Wallace, Elvis may not know when WW1 was fought.

Does the statement mean PREVENTING wars or bringing a specific war to an END? None of the organizations above are tasked with doing either of these except the UN and that organization was doomed to failure from its inception because that UNITY never existed.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Well they're not doing very well in Ukraine or Gaza so my answer is no.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

For the majority naysayers, you believe that we would be better off without such organizations at least trying? Formalized inter national and cultural dialog completely debunked of utility?? Really? Have to ask where you think that road would lead us?

A free for all world of chaos? This is why the cynics of the world are safety tucked well away from the halls of power and influence.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I'd say they contribute to the wars more than anything. NATO in particular.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Yes and that a big yes if the UN got rid of the sercuity council. Because at present it unworkable unless they abolish the right to veto. Why should one representative China, Russia, USA, their one veto out vote 120 votes EG the 120 vote recently called for a cease fire but the right to veto by the USA see the bombing genocide continue. This has nothing to do with friendship but having Congress compromise with jew lobby funding and the jew brags about having control of the USA congress openly. Take away the right to veto there would be no jew lobby funding

"They are parasiting, self serving organisations and the members only interests are expense accounts, todays menu and free travel"

Very fitting and accurate description , says it all really.

On the contrary, they seem to be used to start war, especially NATO. - Still Putin's War

Still a valid statement by RawBeer.

these alliances serve as puppets for arms dealers, and they work behind the scenes to award defense contracts, arms shipments, and after an area is destroyed they dole out re-construction contracts to their cronies. All paid for by the tax paying working class.

That's quite impressive they got Russia to start the war to make the money.

Yes, if you have no friends you would be jealous at those that do and say they are all just up to no good.

Still a valid statement by RawBeer.

No, both statements cannot be true. Tanks were rolling only into Ukraine on Feb. 24th 2022 and that is all that matters for anybody with a brain.
