Do you think Olympic athletes in any country should be allowed to "jump the queue" and be vaccinated before other people?

Of course, NOT.
... But, each country has their own “guidelines”.
Nov 16 ‘20 “Bach said it won't be mandatory, but he left no doubt it will be strongly pushed.” - Reuters -
Mar 13, ‘21 “We will work with the National Olympics Committees to get as many participants as possible being vaccinated within the relevant national guidelines.” - Japan Times -
Toshihiro
There are more important people that need to be vaccinated like emergency service personnel and workers in vital industries. The world should prioritize surviving first, sports are a luxury at this point.

If they're good enough to make it to the Olympics and they have to travel to Japan to compete in them, then yeah. It's also being considerate to the host country's people that they're not bringing in the disease.
stormcrow
Yes, especially those from corona virus struck areas like India or Brazil.
TARA TAN KITAOKA
Definitely not.
Jordi Puentealto
Not in favour, but if the Olympics do take place, would prefer the athletes coming to Japan to be vaccinated.
thaonephil
Better than send them without vaccination, but still much worse than just not sending people that could not be vaccinated after all the vulnerable population was.
Sven Asai
No, what should that be good for? No event , no participation, no need for jumping the queue.
Toasted Heretic
The athletes in the Tokyo Games, given the topic, I guess.
Do you know something we don't know?
cleo
I had to vote 'No' because I couldn't find the 'H3LL NO' button.
Vinny
that's a very leading question your honor
robert maes
No

Where was the button that said:
O You got to be kidding me!

As the politicians who work hard to ensure our well-being and livelihoods in this pandemic jump the queue for vaccination, shouldn't the athletes who will symbolize our victory over the coronavirus also be allowed to do so?
ushosh123
Without jumping the queue, when do you think they will get it? It's not only severity that should be considered but also level of risk.
Mr Kipling
Why not? We are happy with the old, the sick and the fat "jumping" the queue. Why not athletes representing their country?
Magnet
Too late to cut losses now... They should have cancelled the Olympics the moment the Pandemic was declared.

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics will be remembered as the shabbiest, saddest ever. Why bother?
Aly Rustom
no not at all. frontline workers, the elderly, and anyone whose occupation doesn't allow them to work from home.
Chico3
I’m sure if the athletes were allowed to jump the line, there will be lots of angry people and the LDP will be sunk, along with the IOC.
Gooch
Judging from the downvotes, looks like some haven't switched on their sarcasm detectors yet ;-)

I voted yes. They have earned the right to be protected from the virus to attend the international event. Japan still has too many cases for anyone to travel there without being vaccinated. It’s the same situation as any other travel vaccine. The only difference is, this one is new.
TheReds
They are super healthy they should get it last, lol.
Thunderbird2
The most vulnerable in their respective countries should come before athletes. It's only sport, not a matter of life or death.
Nadrew
Definitely.
Jind
I would have medical workers, nursing homes, older seniors, service workers, teachers, law enforcement be tested first than athletes. I have been a athlete all my life and love sports but it's not a priority.
More needy people first.
kyushubill
No but the geniuses running the show will do it. All hail the great Olympics. The new Wizard of Oz. A little tyrant behind the curtain.
Concerned Citizen
With all the variants emerging will the vaccine even be effective?
runner3
I voted yes because they're representing their country, and I'm sure the citizens of Japan would want everyone visiting Japan to be vaccinated.
theResident
Absolutely. First data showing that Pfizer and AZ cut transmission after one dose by 49% and 38% respectively.
By the time of the Olympics there will be more data on transmission rates after 2 shots.
So, this is not about disagreeing about whether the Olympics should take place or not. A large influx of people are about to enter Japan - I want them coming vaccinated!
Aly - I cannot work from home, but I certainly don't feel I should be anywhere close to the top of the list.
blue in green
No.
People should not be coerced to risk their health, by taking this experimental vaccine.
A person's perfectly sufficient immune system should not be permanently altered,
when therapeutics can be made available.
Cancel the Olympics.
