Does U.S. President Donald Trump deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?

For his work with N Korea alone he deserves it.

Of course not.

What did he accomplished in regard of North Korea ?

Nothing. The North Koreans still have nukes, they still have launching sites, they're still lying about their intentions.

Add to that his constant attack on the press, his half-arsed reaction to Khashoggi's murder, his endorsement of torture, his policy toward refugees, etc...

Talking about a Nobel Prize for a guy who someone who disregards human rights is just laughable.

I guess Trump deserves the inappropriately named 'peace' prize. His 'look the other way' approach to the crisis the Palestinian people face in Israel should help him nail it along with his dogged regime change efforts in Venezuela to increase oil company revenue.

I think the key word in the question is, 'deserve'. To deserve means to earn something. Trump has earned nothing remotely associated with peace on earth.

I am fine with evaluating Trump on his own merits, but I don’t see that he has done a single thing towards peace, unless you count him finding a way to deescalate issues he created in the first place. And I don’t count that. So what else has he done to move anything towards peace?

I'm not sure what he has done to merit it. He claimed to stop a massive war with NK, but there is absolutely no way to evaluate that. NK has taken a more communicative approach to their politics. If anybody should be awarded the peace prize based on NK efforts, it should be Moon for working to unite the peninsula. Trump deserves no credit. He's instigating 2 separate wars with Venezuela and Iran as well. I assume that alone disqualifies him.

Robert Mugabe is more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than Trump.

If he ever got the Nobel prize, surely that would automatically qualify him for the Ig Nobel Prize.

Cosying up to dictators, alienating long-standing allies, allowing an increase in racism and bigotry, legitimising lies as political discourse, calling the media "enemies of the people", remaining silent on human rights abuses in the Philipines, Saudi Arabia and many other countries.

For his unbelievable restraint in not smacking Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer upside their deranged heads... sure! Then again a lot of other people have also shown such restraint...

Seriously though, I think a lot of S Koreans, especially those in Seoul who are within artillery range of thousands of N Korean rockets probably don't mind Trump getting the prize. If Trump's main opponent in 2016 had become president, there's a better than even chance there would have been war on the Korean peninsula by now with who knows how many dead on both sides. Not to mention an escalation of war in the Middle East or with Russia.

Trump deserves a long prison term not a Nobel prize.

I think it's fair to say that Trump could single-handedly abolish nuclear weapons worldwide and get every man, woman, and child on earth to throw all their guns into a volcano before holding hands and singing 'Kumbaya', and 90% of the Japantoday commenters would still be all mad about it.

Kim made the first move, guys, not trump. But Kim made it at just the right time and in such a way that trump grabbed at it like a drowning dufus, DOTUS! Actually I have talked to several Koreans about the situation and they all approve of what Trump is doing in regards to N Korea.

Obama got the prize for giving speeches. Certainly Trumps actions on North Korea alone deserve it. Talks which stopped the missle launches over Japan and opened dialong between the two countries. Not to mention pulling troops out of Syria and wanting to foster better relations with Russia. Something the dems have made impossible. Anyone who can get over thier bias for a second can appreciate this agrument.
