No. Bad for Japan. Under Trump, the LDP looked downright respectable. Now with a decent man in the White House, the LDP will go back to being seen as the backward idiots that they are
Nothing will change with Biden. He said it himself, “nothing would fundamentally change”. He was speaking to his wealthy donors, many of whom have their fingers in the Military Industrial Complex pie.
Fair point for the party Aly. However, for Japan as a whole, when Trump brought the world to the verge of a new Cold War with China as the main player, I would say Japan is much better off with him gone.
I'm in the Chomsky camp so it's good to see the back of Trump as a climate change denier. It's not been given much focus in all of these celebrations, but that should be the main reason.
Japan already suffers from extreme weather and has no fossil fuels. A transition away from them will strengthen Japan, not weaken it.
Nobody has any idea yet. I answered (unusually) - "I don't know'' - He really didn't concentrate on foreign policy , during his campaign. Any positive / negative comments above or below are likely to be opinionated depending on who the poster supported!
Voted I don’t know as we none of us do, but he is instinctively an appeaser so unless others on his team provide the backbone there is a danger he may give the CCP a pass on their genocide and cultural obliteration of minorities, not to mention the general oppression of their people and Hong Kong especially. In other areas he may prove more beneficial, certainly less overtly confrontational with the USA’s allies, but excessive government spending may yet wreck the US economy?
Biden has not been elected yet. No state has certified the result. The electoral college has not voted yet. All there is media "projection" of his win.
If Biden becomes president—which remains an “if”—Biden will almost certainly return to the Obama-era policies of cozying to China instead of being aggressive on trade and currency.
Japan, meanwhile, is unlikely to regain its special status as the most important Asian nation to American interests. That ended around the time Koizumi left office, and China’s money is now too influential for Japan to get the same attention as in the past.

Japan also has no domestic production of rare earth elements or uranium, so Japan will remain dependent on other nations for energy production regardless. The biggest global benefactor from the move to wind and solar power has been China.
And what extreme weather? It's a typical November day in what's been a fairly typical weather year for Japan.

In last decade, China, India, Middle East, and most of the rest of the world have increasing CO2 emissions. It will take a long time for those areas to substantially decrease their CO2 emissions.
US and EU have decreasing CO2 emissions the past decade. Japan has been flat the past decade.
I have had people come up to me and say, "We don't like Trump but Biden will continue to be tough on China, right?" All I can do is shrug and say "I hope so."
The United States of America has been under an undeclared state of emergency since November 8, 2016.
The “And we’ll see what happens” misadministration has got to stop undermining democracy at home and the negative effect in Japan and most of the rest of the world.

That's what I was thinking. Regardless of its relationship with the U.S., it's up to Japan to make the tough choices regarding the modernization of agriculture, embracing renewable energy, fixing the nonsensical way so many companies are structured and getting rid of all the geriatric deadwood in companies and the government.

Sadly, that won’t happen, the US and Japan lost and China is the one smiling....to a point.
I just hope the next US president will not die in the middle of its term because of age. Don’t want to see this election opera for at least 4 more years.
I know a number of Japanese old guys who think it was a bad thing, until they turned bright red when I reminded them of how much Trump loves Kim Jung Un and legitimised him and NK as a nuclear power, and how he let Abe flail in the sand pit at the golf course while he was off talking to Matsuyama. Might not help corporate Japan as much, but it will certainly be better for negotiation, and with less threats of tariffs against Japanese automobiles, etc.

Feel good factor versus reality, I guess. Too early to say.

I voted "don't know." How he deals with an increasingly arrogant China will be the key. Have to wait and see.

As Aly Rustom said no, because LDP horrible policies wont be acceptable anymore.
However, it's a good news for the rest of the world.

It's good news for all US allies. It's bad news for Russia, China, Iran, North Korea.

Cannot necessarily say it's good or bad. No one knows what a Biden presidency will be like. He mostly won as a Trump alternative.
