Requirements on Japan are too harsh. Troops and planes could be located elsewhere in the Pacific and perform the same function. The current treaty is a continuation of post-war punishment.

The US has pretty much dictated the terms of the alliance for decades so for Trump to complain shows his lack of knowledge. He continues to look the fool and make the US look as dumb as he is.

Japan is a linchpin for the U.S. military and the front line for America's own defense and that of South Korea as well should a war ever break out in this part of the world.

So, Japan should pay for the US making it a target? US basis in Japan are to deflect the US being a target when it invades/topples other nations. If the US takes its basis home, Japan will be less of a target and have more acceptance around Asia and the Middle East.

End the occupation. Now.

The insufferable current occupant of the White House is clueless.

Keep in mind his actions and statements are directed to his followers and targeted to the 2020 elections.

It would seem to me that Japan does not know what it wants, (except it's cake and eat it). On one hand Japan enjoys US protection, but does not want troops and bases on it's soil.

Japan has it's own SDF but by it's own comstitution cannot rbe deployed overseas.

Japan is now making arrogant claims that other countries soveriegn island in the area belong to Japan.

Personally I don't think that Japan is ready to deploy troops overseas, and needs to be kept under tight control (for as long as this ugly nationalism continues to rise).

The current arrangement is now out of date, and out of structure, and changes are needed. It is Japan that needs to decide as to what it actually wants.

He's just continuing to undermine the security of the world just like Russia told him to. Or he's dumber than a bag of hammers. Governments of the world can't take him seriously and neither can his own

Having an inept fool like Trump as president of a country isn't fair either. Is calling it fair or unfair going to change anything?

Trump represents his home constituency, which alas tells you all too much about the outlook and education or lack of it of a large segment of the voting public of the USA. The US school system has failed over decades to broaden the horizons of the population while the media has pandered to the dumbing down and the narrowing of focus of any news programming that might enlighten.

"If the US is attacked" ... like seriously, the last country who had the guts to declare war on the US was Japan, and now they're buddies, does Trump even study history ?

The only thing keeping the rest of South East Asia doing too you what you did them is U.S.A..

I have to point out that 'being attacked' is not the same as 'declaring war'. I mean, September 11, 2001 immediately comes to mind.

Does it really matter in the long run what Trump thinks?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yes, I agree. The US complains too much.

So, Japan should pay for the US making it a target?

Hmmmm...you’d rather see NK or China tear it apart?

US basis in Japan are to deflect the US being a target when it invades/topples other nations.

And you believe that? Seriously? Lol

If the US takes its basis home, Japan will be less of a target and have more acceptance around Asia and the Middle East.

No, Japan would be an easy target, too easy in fact.

To the haters it probably does, but not to the supporters.

Japan needs the US and pays for everything on the bases except for the salaries and personal items of those stationed here.

Bad question. Some would vote yes it needs to be changed for the benefit of one side or the other, or even just gotten rid of would be a yes vote. "No" only encompasses changing nothing. And "yes" would usually imply the treaty should be kept but altered. I think the change should be that U.S. troops get out, stay out and don't come back. I think its best I abstain from voting because neither answer offered expresses my feeling clearly.
