How about the girl that doesn't do any work but can't get in trouble cause she's the only female in the office and management wants to keep a "diverse workforce".

For me, it has to be the person who gets away with everything and moans and groans about everything in public just because (s)he is a western gaijin. (Although most foreigners at my workplace are not like this). Try seeing a non-Japanese Asian get away with doing this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How about back-stabbers? Good for nothing morons who won't tell you anything face to face, but would rather go to management and just moan.

None of these options really take the cake for me.

The ones who really get on my nerves are the ones who view everyday pleasantries as some kind of superhuman effort, and spend all day every day staring earnestly at something they are typing very slowly whilst steadfastly avoiding doing anything productive.

Or women with whom you have to work with every day who will be nice as pie in front of clients, but who can only muster a whisper if you directly have the gall to say hello to them.

I went with the schemer. I have two of them that work for me and they are constantly feuding and tattling on each other. However, another office jerk that really grates on me is the person who always has an excuse as to why they cannot do what you task them to do. I used to think a lot of bad things about Skipthesong when he complained about U.S. govt. workers because I never saw it when I worked in Yokosuka. But now that I live in the U.S., he hit the nail on the head. Most of them are useless.

This is, hands down, the best poll ever to appear on JT. Great question!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

P.S. My vote is for the "two-face". As this type is not listed, I have selected the "schemer" as the best approximation.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Another one that gets on my nerves is women who pretend to be surprised ALL THE TIME.

"Nani taberu no???" "It's a bag of crisps. I bought them downstairs, at the convenience store you visit every day at 3:15. You have seen me eat them many times. Would you like one?" "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHH????? Honto ni???? Waiwai - oishi so!!!! Arigato! Wai! Oishi!! Chotto karai desu ne???!! Demo oishiiiiiii!"

It must be utterly exhausting to live like that. What must they be like in the boudoir?

And one more - people who very obviously dye their hair, but not their moustaches and sideburns, and then pretend that they don't dye their hair.

Do it right, or don't do it at all.

How about the bosses that take 100% credit (and bonus') for work that their employees did and they had 100% nothing to do (literally!) with the work being completed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Or how about the bossy boss? Or the jerk guy who says bad things on your back? Either way I voted the bully there is one guy at work who is always being a (bad word here). So in his dedication that vote was for him!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

take a leaf from my book and not care about anyone in your office at all. no-one has annoyed me at work for years

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The schemer is the worst. You know where everyone stands, but the schemer is inherently dishonest. The Bully? Hah, just stand up to her/him. Bullies fold pretty easily.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How about the one that wont take responsibility and cuts production because of their mistakes. Oh and cant be fired because their the boss.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think this is an excellent poll question.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't think there's anyplace for a bully, but the work place is inexcusiable. It's probably worse for the children.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nice Japanese, Ivan. You hate these normal J-women at your work? And surely you must have some experience of them in the boudoir...... I can't stand that fact people who take twice as long to do something and need 10 meetings to get there.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree with telecasterplayer. The schemer is one who hates you and coerces management of your, so-called, bad habits. He/she will be sure you and others like you are out of the way while their brown nose starts to smell.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

you forgot to add the choice:

6) none of them! i work freelance.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh, yeah, another type that annoys me to greatest depth of hell are the stupid people. The kind of "who the hell passed you through interview" kind of stupid. Arrghh!!! I can't give out more examples, but you get the idea.

Bullies - either those who scheme and are unpleasant to immediate colleagues or the unpleasant boss who creates a miserable working environment. Bully may actually be too strong a work for some driven bosses, but the effect on morale is the same either way.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I worked for 10 years at Nova with a person who was all five of the above. Praise the Lord for taking her away from me.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The Bully is the only one that involve direct personal attack whilst the rest are unlikely or either doesn't affect the typical passive office worker.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd rather work with a schemer than with a chronically disorganized. Anything that can wait until Friday at 6PM can wait until Monday.

My rules: Anything marked "urgent" or "a.s.a.p." but with no specific deadline goes to the bottom of the pile.

Failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. Words to live by.

What about the boss who shoots from the hip making "pie in the sky promises" to clients without thinking about the feasability of such issues? This person then tells the people implementing this schemes that it is easy to do so (when it is not). Actually, such people are closely related to the boss who takes all the credit for employees work, despite having been ignored by the employees in question as a complete and utter cluster fxxxx.

Good poll question.

Anything that can wait until Friday at 6PM can wait until Monday.

Nessie- well said. One more thing that winds me up is when there's an office do and a couple of women make a point of showing how "diligent" they are by arriving at the restaurant late, thus keeping everybody else waiting because they can't start without a quorum (although the nomihodai meter went on the minute we sit down.

Their excuse - "I was expecting an email from a client". Sod that - I was expecting some beer at a nomihodai, but you put the mockers on that, didn't you? Go home and feed your cats.

Had that experience before with a catlady. I wonder if it's the cats that make them lag behind everyone else.

I'm lucky that the only jerks in my SoHo are me and the dog, and we don't fit into any of those poll categories.

Hang on - the dog likes to bark when people walk past the window, so I suppose she fits into the 'co-worker who won't shut up while you are trying to work' category.

The jerk that really gets to me is the one who phones at 6pm on Friday and wants to know if I can have three day's worth of work finished and submitted by first thing Monday morning. And sounds surprised and peeved when I say No.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In my-soon-to-finish job, I worked with a schemer and a bully. Both of those qualities went hand-in-hand with him, and will continue long after I've gone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I hear ya, Ivan. And what Cleo said.

Put the ball in their court. Tell them it'll cost them. Name a ridiculous price. If they go with it, you can whistle while you work, with sugarplum thoughts of lush onsen hotels. If they don't go with it, you have a free weekend.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I hate the " Fake Nice " Co worker The " Fashion / idiot Chan " co worker The " I'm too Cool " co worker The " I'm a Genius " co worker The " Lazy Bone " co worker The " Over 8 cups of coffee/green tea " co worker The " Look over your shoulder " co worker

Why can't these people work transfer somewhere else. Please

Assuming I had a free weekend in the first place....(How'd'ya get three days of work done over Saturday and Sunday, with or without the whistling?)

Sugarplum thoughts of lush tropical beaches.....

What happened when women used to be polite with manners ? What happened to these women. I sit next to a women at my job. She pretends I am a ghost for one year now. Never says, anything in her native language. Pretends I am a ghost. Who hired this woman ? What kind of parents does she have ? Heartless soul !!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

dont take it personally memyslfl, she's just very antisocial and probably treats some other people in the same way. she's just rude and ignorant.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

also, even if her parents didnt give her the correct instructions, that is still no exccuse on her part. everyone can learn manners and politness for themselves. even monkeys learn basic skills quickly.

There's one guy in my office who is breaking wind all day. And I'm not kidding. I guess he has some health problem and can't help it but it's not pleasant for the rest of us. Which category in the poll does this go under??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

memyself - I shouldn't worry about it. There are a lot of them about. A bloke sitting near me seems to make a political point of responding in monosyllables, grunting and snapping like a premenstrual woman. When we call him on this he says "I'm busy" like it's some kind of excuse for his chronic unpleasantness. He always has time to go outside for a smoke, however.

I say that if your workload leaves you too pressed to even exchange elementary courtesies, then you need to work on your time management skills.

Why not do what I do, memyself? I break wind at him whenever I can, and give him something to be miserable about.

WMD - sorry if it upsets you, but my hands are tied. There is nothing that can be done about it as a matter of fact.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Assuming I had a free weekend in the first place....(How'd'ya get three days of work done over Saturday and Sunday, with or without the whistling?)

If the price is right, Cleo, I can usually fit you in somewhere...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nessie - how do you get your pic in your avatar?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

my experience if they are one then they are all of the above!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's probably worse for the children.

I'm not so sure. When we're working, we have incredible stress. We have to be there to pay our bills. Also, workplace bullies are more sophisticated than schoolyard bullies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Christ, I'm so glad I have my own business...this poll reminds me of the chicken-hut mentality of office working. Eeeeeeek!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. Words to live by.

Excellent!
