Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. A government task force assigned to close the gender wage gap in Japan, is calling on five industries for corrective action plans -- financial services and insurance; food manufacturing; retailing; electric and precision machinery; and air transportation.

I bet they will propose lowering mens’ wages. I worked at a company that was trying to pursue such gender equality and at the next opportunity they forced out many men for early retirement and promoted women.

That sounds very much like the usual call to fist pump and gambarimasu. Wonder if the sentiments for change are real enough to recommend some policies that actually have teeth. You really get the feeling that the LDP has been happy for years now deliberately plodding along slowly with regard to the gender pay gap, which by the way, is actually very real here in Japan. Is the real will for dramatic change really arrived or is this more politicking. Another government task force, I guess we will see.

Or in two words.... Lip service.. To a problem that does not exist.

The pay gap is due to men and women doing different jobs. Those doing the same jobs at the same level are paid the same. This is a non issue.
