International University of Japan President Takeo Kikkawa, an expert on the energy industry. Despite a desperate need for data centers — buildings that store, process and distribute electronic data — providers are finding it difficult to operate such facilities because electricity, which is utilized to cool servers and other computing equipment, currently accounts for around 15% of operating costs.

Japan should activate all it's nuclear power plants and then triple the number with new builds.

And investigate molten-salt thorium reactors as well. Much lower risk if they can make them viable.

Presumably the alternative here is such data centers being offshored, with huge security risks.

Yeah, Japan needs more electricity, for data centers, electric cars, the linear Shink, clean home heating, .... and to get serious about generating it. If that means nuclear then so be it.

Kikkawa is wrong there’s plenty of available power in Japan under the ground and from the sun-it is not being utilised
