I'd like to see it increase to 5 days, but it is a start. So many times when my kids were younger we would pull them from school to travel but would always suffer backlash from their teachers about missed school. I didn't care, visiting different places is in itself a kind of education that our kids still remember today!

Wow! Those three weekdays out of the nearly 200 school days will surely make the kids closer to their families!

I like this concept, especially since the only days parents and kids have off throughout the year usually fall during the same time as other families (Golden Week, New Years, etc) which means inflated hotel prices, high traffic with no breathing room, and overall a stressful experience compared to a relaxing one. This new system would allow both parents and kids to take a random time off together to go and enjoy the peace and serenity that is the weekday in Japan.

Allow? Is this a joke? When my folks wanted to pull me out of school early, they'd scribble a note to give to my teacher and that was that.

Yes if you share a child with a Japanese woman you will know that your entire family life and holidays will revolve around the school year in Japan. You will be comfortable only buying plane tickets to visit your home country at the absolute most expensive time of the year.

I have taken my kids out of school for non-standard vacations many times in Japan.

That's another contemporary logic much beyond Einstein level. Is anyone in the whole universe out there who understands that? Taking a learner away from the learning place for more learning... I don't get it, and that means something. lol
