No, Japan isn't different from "other countries." Korea's Hyndais and Kias are made in the US. and German BMW and Mercedes as well, and others.

People complain about the worldview of Americans and Trump, the Japanese arent much better.

Other countries don't? I think other countries contribute just as much as Japan.

"Combined with the 1,300,000 individuals directly and indirectly employed by the Japanese-brand automakers' dealership network, Dr. Prusa's study concludes that Japanese-brand automakers now support more than 2.29 million U.S. jobs."

Simple, no messing about, you want to sell stuff here, cars, electronics, computers?

You build manufacture here.

Japan manufactures can achieve this demand avoid tariffs and at the same time thrive.

At the same time US government forward bases is also Japan people commitment, that Japan is to be fully protected against the government of China.

If US government will not honour, then Japan must find its own way.

Not sure how different Trump thinks Japan is.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

A fairly diplomatic statement. Its probably not true, but that doesn't matter. The main thing is to not provoke Trump into announcing (but not necessarily actually doing) something to impress his base.

Japan needs to import many things, most importantly energy. The supply of this should be diversified and must not be placed at the whims of any foreign leader, Donald Trump included.

Great, no problems as long as US customers dont mind paying a lot more for things they could get much cheaper built in other nations if free trade were allowed. I am sure the companies would love being able to make profits from US citizens while making things there for domestic consumption.

But on a level playing field, other nations with lower wages and a life style far less than Americans take for granted, can make things very much cheaper. Every individual wants to make their money go as far as it can and having less because prices are inflated is not going to win votes in the end.

A balance must be maintained, sometimes you win out and some times you dont. Expecting to win on everything is unrealistic. Welcome to Trumps mind, he thinks he can win everything but he cant. Trying to just destroys trust and friendships developed over decades. Trump ignores things he doesnt like rather than dealing with them. Bad thing for a leader to do.

Put it another way, Japan creates jobs and supports livelihood of Americans because USA is a market where Japan can make a lot of money from? No?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

no. it’s a market where american banks and finance companies make a lot of money from americans going in debt up to their eyeballs buying stuff.

they make more money than the manufacturers.
