Station names have a public nature similar to geographical names. We should use a geographical name that has been used by local people for many years.

Essayist Mineko Nomachi, who launched an online signature-collection site in December immediately after JR East announced the name of Takanawa Gateway for the new station on Yamanote Line. JR East solicited ideas from the public for the new station’s name. The most popular candidate was “Takanawa” at 8,398 entries. “Takanawa Gateway” ranked 130th with 36 entries.

I much prefer names associated to where they are. Always a lot easier to find and imagine where they are. Often associated with the images, culture and history of the area in which they're located.
