The group companies include Hino and Daihatsu which also lied about emissions, fuel economy and safety testing.

Simply systemic fraud.

They lost sight because they were blinded by their greed and unwilling to invest in EV out of pride.

Entire world will be EV soon, battery supply chain constraints are being solved. People like quiet, clean, almost no maintenance and charging at home at night, while saving lots of money on gasoline.

Toyota's greatest damage, their undue influence as powerful special interest group, causing Govt. led policy for charger roll-out and EV adoption via tax incentives to be delayed years behind its peers in US & EUROPE.

Thus, handing EV leadership over to new pure plays in China & Tesla especially. Global ICE vehicle production PEAKED in 2019, its market share dropping EVERY Year, ditto mini/light consumer & heavy commercial vehicles.
