quote of the day

We need to map out a clear goal to attract foreign suppliers of wind farms so that they would invest in Japan and build local supply chains here.

Is that more subsidy?

The industry aims to provide a third of Japan's power by 2050.

Better late than never, I suppose. Now there is wave power, solar power on every home and tall building, more solar water heaters, ground heat exchangers, geothermal power, insulated houses, good quality buildings, replacing traffic lights with roundabouts, and probably many more ideas to reduce consumption and increase supply.

...why international suppliers? Japan doesn't treat the international people that live in Japan with respect.

In the UK in the first three months of this year, more power was generated by wind than gas.

I think that was more "electric power". I understand more gas is used in the UK for domestic heating than for electricity generation.

What a ridiculous statement. They’re were foreign companies but the labyrinth of interconnected intermediate government and private entities made it virtually impossible to build turbines. Too hard to get the land, too hard to build, too much resident resistance, too many hankos, too little ROI, it was a money pit, so they left.

Now they want them back?

Yes, more electricity was generated in the first three months from wind turbines than from gas-powered plants. I was just commenting on electricity.

This is the funniest thing I've read all day.

Indeed. These people live in a fantasy world.

Why can't Japan build their own wind farms, rather than rely fully on foreign suppliers?

Not sure what the quote is referring to in terms of foreign suppliers. As far as I know, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is heavily involved in wind power generation around the world.
