A customer accused a teller at a register of spreading the virus after the teller handed back change instead of putting it on a tray. Another shopper assaulted a worker who was restricting customers' entry into a store.

Oh, good grief! The world has gone flipping crazy! The cashier can touch the money to put it the tray but can not put it into the customer’s hand. Just think about that for a second or two. It is the same thing!

Money is one of the most disgustingly dirty things in the world. I’m so glad I live in a country that has an awesome debit card system that only requires waving your card over the machine. I don’t carry cash anywhere. Even taxis and buses are cashless. Here in Australia, people who handle money can not touch food.

It makes absolutely no difference if you use a tray or not, the cashier must handle the money either way. And you must then handle the same money yourself. The greatest casualty of the pandemic is the death of common sense.

The cashiers in my local shops wear gloves.

People being arseholes towards those in public facing jobs is norm new, but reports indicate worsening behaviour is a global problem. It’s not the virus, it’s a sense of entitlement and lack of respect from idiot customers.

Risk of contacting the virus from cash is low.

Just wash your hands properly when you get home or your place of work, after using the loo and before eating and handling food and after touching your mask. It’s not rocket science.

I figit with my phone and they just put change in the tray.

Simple, no need to even ask.

And charge and jail the violent psychopaths.

Maybe these people complaining think it is some sort of magical tray that disinfects the coins.

This is why we don't have genuine kind services in Japan, only pretrained robotic behaviors are allowed.

Having lived here nearly 25 years I remember when change was always put in the tray. I am not sure exactly when this changed.

I prefer the people to put the change in the tray and always ask them nicely to do so. I usually make a joke of it and say something to the effect of we do not need to touch each other.

People should not get violent about this and I am not trying to excuse the actions but when people are subjected to constant and daily death counts, case counts, etc. it does have a definite psychological impact.

What I do not like is that I have to handle the coin tray, which has been touched by every customer before me. The whole process is overkill. Alcohol spray your hands on the way out the door and wash up once home. Simple. Plastic gloves on workers is overkill.

We are all human after all, and this covid thing takes its toll. The chances of you getting covid from the cashier because of the difference of them putting the coins in you hand over the tray is quite low. So relax.

If you knew...You have very much more bacterias, viruses, worms, insects , their eggs and excrements etc. inside and outside of your body than ever would find place on those small change coins and notes. Do you consequently also find yourself totally disgusting, infectious and deny touching or existing beside yourself? lol

And moments before those notes and coins you received as change were fed into theb machine by someone else’s hands.

If these people would be paid respectfull wages for doing a hard job they would have more reason to be genuinely kind to customers

I spray the change with an alcohol disinfectant before picking it up, but it makes the receipt get soggy.

I also spray all my bills and credit cards at home in the morning before leaving.

I also take the time to spray elevator buttons.

We can all take part in this pandemic to help each other out instead of getting angry.

Bet you the shop attendant was a Nepalese or Sri Lankan not automatically accustomed to using the tray. Which perhaps will suggest something about the complainant...

You still have to pick the money up that the cashier placed in the tray so it makes no difference. Just make sure you sanitise your hands simple .

I must admit, I'm tired of telling cashiers to put the coins in the tray instead of directly in my hand. That's what the tray is there for!
