The officials who made this fatuous decision should not only cover the cost, but also pay a huge fine and be summarily dismissed from their posts for actively encouraging non-urgent, non-essential travel across country during a State of Emergency.

So much corruption, at every level, down to the most remote municipalities and their profiteers that had NO connect to the proposed Tokyo venue, other than it was Bach himself wanting to visit there. -

It's funny. If the olympics are the ultimate case of "bringing the world together through sport in a spirit of brotherhood", and so on, surely Bach would be the most popular man in the world and wouldn't need an entire phalanx of security men and hangers-on to visit Hiroshima. He could just buy himself a shinkansen ticket (heck, he could probably buy the train itself with his pocket change) and grab a cab at the station. He'd be given a hero's welcome.

Like Abe and his visits to Yasukuni - why couldn't Bach have visited Hiroshima as an ordinary visitor, a civilian? Why did it have to be an official visit? And an official visit by whom? THE IOC? Who is it? Is Bach the president? Is he the prime minister or the emperor of some distant land? This is a simple publicity stunt. That's all it is. Absolutely disgusting and another disgrace to the place. Politicians and bigwigs making politics on a place where many people have died and vanished.

Why would Bach need a security detail?

Bach is one of those unelected members of an organisation where there is zero transparency. His visit to Hiroshima was unnecessary. He should have paid from his own pocket, and this is not counting the cost of his stay in a luxury hotel in Tokyo. Sorry for the Japanese tax payers who are going to foot the bill. This man has become too big for his boots.

I understand WHY he needs security, being so utterly hated that he is, BUT then HE should PAY for his own security & all transport etc etc etc etc etc etc!! For this STUPID insincere trip to Hiroshima.....as another said such a disgrace!!
