Tragic. Contrast that to France where event spaces, galleries and theaters are recieving generous subsidies during the pandemic. Dentsu, hotel owners and finacial institutions are the only "cultural" properties cared about in Japan. The priorities of the Japan Inc./Gov combine could not be clearer as misery rises.

While something cool in Japan, that result from their work. Japan will show to the world about cool Japan. Now it's time they couldn't do anything because pandemic, Japan give them low priority. Poor people.

An artist, writer, athlete for that matter, chooses, by definition, a non conform and non financial secure lifestyle.
They should accept the consequences of those choices. Those who are successful rarely give back to the society in materialistic way sbut they enjoy swelling in them.
If an artist has the talent, he or she will find ways around their problems, because also by definition, they are creative. Begging for government funding means they are not making the grade.

The worker drones should not be distracted by art. Keep them working, shopping and watching TV.

However, bankers and business owners who accept the risks of investment and expect the lions share of profits in the economic good times expect the public treasury to bail them out in a crisis. Seems fair.

I mentioned “ athletes” you even quoted it.
true that government subsidises a lot of sports events. I am against government money for professional sports. I support government support for school, youth and amateur sports.
Professional sports also return billions to government coffers.

Heard of artists who died unrecognized, disillusioned and in misery like Van Gogh, Kafka etc. etc. ...

This is all messed up.
All those who are considered essential, by def

should continue working, and compensated accordingly, ie hazard pay.
All those who.are nonessential and requested to stop conducting business should have financial support.

In other words, essential or non essential are designations that should be used only to determine wh

which should continue working and be exposed to risk because ofthe necessity of the work for everyone to continue necessary activities such as eating and getting nedical treatment.
They should not be used to detemine who will or will not receive compensation or to even priotize.
