quote of the day
As the F-35A is aircraft loaded with sensitive features, it is difficult to verify whether the cost is reasonable. It is true that we tend to accept the U.S. asking price.

That's what you want to hear when it's paid with your taxes...

These things and other like em probably don't even cost half as much as stated. The rest of the money gets ghosted away on things we ain't supposed to know about, and shared between all the fellas that run the world. Fellas way above who you think is actually running the show.

Regardless of what Japan pays for the new F-35 fighter jets their total military expenditure still won't exceed 1% GDP which remains one of the lowest military budgets of any country on the planet.

@DAaron,
Japan's expenditure as a percentage of GDP stands at 0.9% (2016) according to the world bank, so there is a fair chance the 1% mark will be broken fairly soon.

Haha, some great negotiation skills right there!

Japan gets a pretty good deal out of their relationship with the U.S, all things considered. It cant be terribly hard for Japan to verify what sort of price other U.S partners are paying.
They'll go 2% in time. Its a reasonable level. Australia is just coming up to 2% now. Nobody really complains about that, just the prices we have paid for certain items, like those crazy prices for new French subs.
