quote of the day

Because there was a ban on mobile phones, some schools were unable to instruct students sufficiently on their use. We want to be more proactive in teaching children how to properly use them.

So the kids are to keep them safely tucked away in their bags only to be touched if a natural disaster hits ay? Nice try.

The outright ban obviously doesn’t work but this is typical of a type of rule that pretends to address a problem but obviously doesn’t The very definition of expediency. Cosmetics.

It’s ok Japan, the rest of the world too is struggling as to what to do with this very powerful, but very dangerous to kids new technology. What you don’t want to do is play pretend with simpleton approaches, and quick fix rules like “only use them in an earthquake.” It sends all the wrong messages to the tech savvy youngsters, basically saying the oldies ‘haven’t a clue’. It’s the old pass the buck method.

If you are going to face a problem face it with proper research. Look into examples of what has and hasn’t worked overseas, im sure there are a few different options on the table as it’s a global phenomena. Kids developing brains , mental and emotional states are all danger if these complex challenges aren’t taken seriously.

The only thing banning smartphones from the classroom says is that teachers don't know how to use them effectively.

The problems with relying on smartphones was demonstrated yesterday in the UK and Japan when major providers had their services disrupted for almost a whole day. The stories of how people's lives were disrupted are a warning to us all. In times of major disaster mobile phones can be unusable, always have access to a landline which are more likely to work. Never rely solely on modern technology, it can and will fail.
