quote of the day

Even baseball matches are being held currently with spectators. Why not go ahead with the Games? The Olympics will happen, even without spectators. Once it begins, everybody will be glad and it will be good for the economy too.

Yawn. Another Nippon Kaigi overlord putting corporate profiteering and nationalist vainglory ahead of the public health.

Good for the economy!!!??? How??? It's costing more than it will ever bring in!!!

Currently, the border is closed to foreigners, except residents of Japan, or family members of Japanese nationals. People with contracts have been working for months from their country because then are not allowed in. Why then suddenly allow tens of thousands of foreigners in? Why is a guy throwing a ball more important than a biochemist expert (for example)?

Not exactly high level stuff mate. Is that all you have, really?? Dang, it’s worse than I thought.

Very happy, very glad... that’s put the peoples mind to rest for sure.

absolutely factually incorrect. The cost of organising in these circumstances far putwater the almost neglectable revenue.

And financial and stock market experts are even calling for postponement.

Even politically Suga can gain votes if he postponed the games and checkmates the IOC. It would be the action of a man with a strong personality.. so.. regretfully..

usually the games do become more popular as they approach. Not this time.

each medal will be tainted.

Baseball matches don't bring together people from nearly every country on the planet into a single location.

Not exactly rocket science to see how it's different.

In contrary , now we have learned that the limited number of baseball spectators has been allowed as a test balloon and argumentative help for the Olympic games.

because everyone is being told to stay away from bars and restaurants, yet go to work on packed trains. Told that travel is bad but then watching as 1000s of people are being encouraged to come as part of the games.

Imagine the ineptitude needed to KNOW that you are hosting the biggest international sporting event in the world and you do nothing about making sure the citizens are vaccinated beforehand to ensure the games can go ahead......

Not everyone. I certainly won't be glad.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Most athletes coming will be vaccinated, and at current rates Japan will be at 50m plus vaccinations by the time the Olympics kick off, as well as having had the current wave subside.

I am looking forward to the games, and they should definitely be held.

And by the way , several baseball games has been cancelled and we have seen several clusters. In Osaka there are no spectators and we just have a team found to have 13 infected players.

if anything, a good example against holding the Games.

Especially considering the attemps to keep only 12 teams of 150 players and staff in quarantine bubbles. Quite a failure

It’s archaic thinking like this that has destroyed japan and stained it’s image. Cant help but laugh really

So in short, if the government is already invested in doing something bad why not do it as bad as they can possibly make it?

What an idiot.

If I weren't living here, I totally would not have given a damn. You deserve what you vote for.

How will this be good for the economy?

It will have the opposite effect.

On top of that the economic risks of holding the Olympics are huge!

It is really unfathomable that someone could make this statement.

What utter rubbish, the fact that we all can deconstruct and easily refute such comments demonstrates either the intellectual paucity of the originator or their utter corrupt self interest as being the only foundation upon which these statements are made! But then they were made by a politician, and we all know you can easily tell if a politician is lying, his mouth is moving!
