quote of the day

Even if the United States and Japan work closely together, we cannot keep competing with China. Therefore, we are trying to draw new partners into this coalition, including India and Australia. If we can increase our defense budget, we may not be able to outdo China, but we may be able to compete with China fairly effectively.

Leave India out of it. They're supporting Russia, already, and don't deserve the time of day.

mister professor have possibly never heard about BRICS,if not lets hope that he knows at least how to use a google for example.

China could grew because of combination of chinese will, hardwork and greed of western corporations including japanese one.All of foriegn investors came to Japan to milk its resources both natural and human ones in aim to maximize own profits. However chinese are fsat learners and smart people.China of 2022 and say 1987 are two different countries in case of economic level,GDP and quality of life.

Western countries and Japan have lost oits power over China since China have joined BRICS and started to cooperate with other big countries like Russia and China on levels never seen before-and yes out of sight and reach of wetsrn countries and Japan.

mister professor is wrong,Japan dont need to increase its own army budget to feel "competitive" but instead of it Japan need finally invest money in families and kids education-future of this country. When families will feel safe to have more than one kid, will get appropriate support from gov for kids edutaion and schooling fees-than Japan have chance to grow up again with new generation of talented and well educated globally minded people, who will be not afraid to compete with neigbours at international scene.

Japan have to stock to own peace constitution and stay peace loving country.for sake of us our kids and our grandkids.

its time to understand finally what is your real position in the world right now.and start to do right and appropriate steps.

Going against China is like chasing the wind! Good luck Japan with such obscure ambition.

China is not all powerful. It is going to collapse VERY soon.

The current fertility rate for China in 2022 is 1.702 births per woman, a 0.18% increase from 2021. The fertility rate for China in 2021 was 1.699 births per woman, a 0.18% increase from 2020.

This is a demographic time bomb.

Their disastrous 1 child policy as well as left them with a demographic nightmare. They're powerful now, but they will collapse and probably sooner than we think

India are the next China under Modi. You are just baking in your next problem.

exactly! Modi is no friend, ally or partner. He, like Winne the Pooh and Pootin must be contained. None of these 3 can be friends with the west.

Chinas might will slow and die, they grew fast but its not sustainable.

Fair strategy to limit military belligerence from China.

Therefore, we are trying to draw new partners into this coalition, including India and Australia.

Same as many of the above posters.

Modi is a religious zealot and nationalist strongman. His tearing up the complex and fragile fabric of Indian society while leeching up to Russia. The only reason India is in the QUAD is its beef with China. Whether within the QUAD or within any other partnership is Modi's vision of India going to be a very uncomfortable "ally" to deal with...

If we can increase our defense budget, we may not be able to outdo China, but we may be able to compete with China fairly effectively.

China can't compete with US military spending and nobody can compete with Chinese military spending PERIOD. Military spending has nothing to do with "fairness", it's all about topping your opponent and allow for more man-power, more material, advantages in logistics and overall effectiveness. "Fairness" is a utterly irrelevant in this discussion...

Instead of trying to outdo or even compete with China etc, why don't they just spend money where it needs to be spent in Japan? There are far bigger priorities than military.
