Mr Ishihara has given the public the impression that he is trying to evade providing an explanation.

Which means he has something to hide. And she knows it.

Of course he's responsible. He's subject to the same laws as everyone else. He's not above the law.

Unfortunately, Bertie, he is.

Ishihara is a terrorist. He was part of Aum Shinrikyo and gave them funds. WHY isn't ANYONE investigating THAT? Whether Ishihara is responsible for the purchase of contaminated land should as well be investigated, but what about his links to terrorism?

According to politician Kōichi Hamada, Ishihara gave financial and political support to Aum Shinrikyo, a religious cult that was involved in several murders and assassination attempts during the early 1990s.[15] Immediately after the Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995, Ishihara dropped out of national politics, suddenly ending a 25-year career in the Diet.

Once a monster always a monster.

He's subject to the same laws as everyone else.

It's Japan. He certainly won't be held more responsible than Tepco was.

Ishihara being harried and under suspicion as he closes in on his life's conclusion.

Suspiscion is nothing special for him. Even if it's proven, a J-politician signing a stupid deal and wasting mountains of public money, it is so common. Now, if they found that he was bribed into signing, maybe he could have a real fall into disgrace like Kakuei Tanaka.

I hope the get him on this! ishihara has done TREMENDOUS damage to Japan with his disastrous time in Tokyo, lets not forget that ""bank"" that lent to anyone & everyone & nobody paid anything back.....

And lets not forget he was the one that kicked off the Senkaku's problem by saying he would buy the islands etc, try & imagine the daily costs the SDF etc have to put in because of what this old fool did, the costs climb EVERY DAY!!

And Toyosu is only his latest costly move, probably more still to come!

Yes ... he is purposely trying to evade providing an explanation. In TV views of him, he appears as a grumpy old man ... and always shakes off the news media ... especially when they try to get comments from him as he leaves or enters his home. It appears he definitely mismanaged the Toyosu market fiasco.

If I were a mean and vengeful man I would say that there is something karmic about Ishihara being harried and under suspicion as he closes in on his life's conclusion. He was a very nasty guy.

If he was in charge at the time, then he is ultimately responsible. At any rate, the honorable thing for him to do would be to answer questions - his actions to date suggest that he somehow thinks doing so is beneath him.

This will not go well.
