quote of the day

I chose Japan because it costs less than other countries while it has a good education system, instilling good discipline in students. After studying in Japan, my children will have better chance to get good jobs when they come back to work in Vietnam, since there are more and more Japanese companies investing in our country.

Vietnam is one of the fastest growing immigrant populations in Japan over the past decade.

dont think OP intends for the kids to work in JP, only study there. Imo the main problem lies in the corporate culture rather than the schooling system.

I do not want them to be conformists who are afraid to think or speak critically.

That pretty well describes many of the students I see from US universities these days, unfortunately. Except they are called social justice warriors.

I don't think a student from another country is so susceptible to only thinking one way in Japan. They already have a diverse background. And unlike in the US, they don't have to deal with sex, drinking and dugs the way they do in America. That's all a bit much for any adolescent.

REAL education is supposed to FREE and EMPOWER one to think and use REASON to pursue his and humanity's greatest God given potential. If it's used to empower a section of the dominant culture , then it becomes a tool for propagating the status quo, and eventually indoctrination of the slave mentality,( subservience).

I think the Japanese school system is fine up until the end of elementary school. After that, get them out and overseas somewhere where they can flourish.

That's funny...

I just chose to leave Japan after 9 years because it costs more than other countries while it has a not-as-good-as-portrayed education system, instilling militaristic discipline in students. After studying in Japan, my children will be overworked, underpaid in bad jobs and poorly equipped to think on their own.

I have lived in Japan for a long time, long enough to know that I will not educate my children here. I do not want them to be conformists who are afraid to think or speak critically. And I will certainly not waste whatever learning potential they possess by sending them to that four-year summer camp which in Japan is euphemistically referred to as university.

The last thing I want for them is to be chained to the oars of a Japanese company.
