quote of the day

I felt that Japan's policies against loneliness and isolation are gathering attention as the world suffers due to the coronavirus. I'd like to think about how Japan can deliver its message so that its countermeasures become an example for the world to follow.

Japanese cabinet member Tetsushi Sakamoto, who has been appointed Japan's first "minister of loneliness" to implement measures to prevent social isolation. He has been interviewed in succession recently by media outlets from four countries including South Korea.

Would love to hear the action plan Minister. Lot a disassociated, dissconnected and dysfunctional lost souls walkin about out there unable to connect.

"I felt that Japan's policies against loneliness and isolation are gathering attention as the world suffers due to blanket fear-mongering by the media, over the coronavirus". Corrected that for you.

"minister of loneliness"

I have never heard of anything more ridiculous!

Japan's policies against loneliness and isolation are gathering attention

What policies??? Do you mean a complete luck of mental care in Japan. Or complete luck of treatment for alcoholism due to depression??? 1799 suicides a month is something not to be proud of and you think you are doing a good job????

Sakamoto does not seem to realise that the world is not that concerned with Japan.

The lack of free thinking and foreign language proficiency make it so.

Agree 100%! I always feel that this country suffers from a collective delusion of grandeur.

Put a penguin or pet dog at that minister seat and the cuteness factor will see loneliness and suicides go down.

ROFL!!!!

As a Japanese I’d like you to not embarass us all by taking it global.

Japan is quite lacking in the personal happiness dept.

Perhaps you meant Japan could take a tip from one the happier nations on earth?

Thank you Tetsushi Sakamoto for the vacuous rhetoric.

BTW Tetsushi, could you please share some concrete examples of the countermeasures you are implementing?

Tetsushi Sakamoto is reportedly affiliated with the revisionist lobby Nippon Kaigi, as well as being a member of a group connected to Shintō Seiji Renmei .

And what effective measures are those? The attention is obviously about the unusual name of the position, but up to this point nothing specially useful have been done about the problem.

Perhaps Japan needs to return to the traditional values, such as mascots, pachinko, idol groups and the last train home after mindlessly sitting at their desk until 11pm. Otsukare!

Before Japan has the world following it, it needs to learn crises management. Everything in Japan runs well until there is a crisis. Then everything falls apart. It did this time. The above is making it sound as if all is well or will soon be well. And frankly, I do not think anything is normal or well right now. We need medications again the virus. We frankly need to get the Olympics out of Japan. It has no place in a pandemic.

Once Japan has everything squared away and it slides smoothly through the next crisis there will be no need to tell the world anything. The world will tell us here in Japan.

"1799 suicides a month is something not to be proud of and you think you are doing a good job????" Completely agree, many of them due to Covid measures
