quote of the day

I felt something really terrible had happened after seeing the pain of French people. We need to hand down our temple in its current state to the next generation by exercising extreme caution.

The French went into Asia burning down palaces and cultural sites.

Victor Hugo, whose novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" helped spark renewed interest and a restoration of the old cathedral Notre Dame in 1830, was one of more high-profile Europeans utterly appalled by the actions of the French army in Asia.

"We call ourselves civilized and them barbarians," Hugo wrote of the burning of the Summer Palace. "Here is what Civilization has done to barbarity."

Karma exists though it may not be instant.

I am amazed that they do not already have comprehensive fire prevention measures in place. I know the historic buildings in Britain do and I would guess also in France, the problems arise when there is restoration work going on where there is any “hot” work especially on roofs above the sprinklers or if they are turned off for maintenance. York Minster and Windsor Castle fires involved this and similar is suspected in Notre Dame.
