quote of the day

I have no record. I have no experience. But I have the passion to create a better Japan.

Shinjiro Koizumi , 28, the son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. Shinjiro has become the target of growing public grumbling over the widespread practice of hereditary politics, in which a legislative seat is passed down from parent to child like an heirloom. Critics say the system is disadvantageous to newcomers and discourages change. (AP)

Yeah, and it probably took a speech writer to come up with that quote. So you have the passion? Then go out and do something first ON YOUR OWN. Has this putz ever held a job other than the ones his father gave him?

This is true.

Unbelievable this stuff can happen. Get out there and make your own life, don't look for a free ride on your father's coat tails.

Didn't he fail at being a talent?

I really wish they would do away with this system. It makes a mockery of the whole system. I really do believe this is way Japanese politics are a mess.

As for Koizumi, I hate him. Smug, arrogrant and spoiled. I'm happily surprised that the public seems to dislike him as well.

In the good old days of LDP rule he wouldn't have needed experience, a record or any passion. With three generations of cabinet ministers behind him he'd be on the fast track for a cabinet post himself, and then all he'd have to do was whatever the bureaucrats in his ministry told him to.

He's got every right to run, but the citizenry have every right to vote for the oppostion. However, since he is connected, he could be the best person for getting stuff done. Not because he has experience, but because he has daddy's political weight. I wouldn't vote for him, as I doubt he's the best person for the job, but I don't know who he's up against either.

"Critics say the system is disadvantageous to newcomers and discourages change."

It also encourages mediocrity, due to what statisticians call "regression to the mean".

mediocrity would be a huge improvement
