quote of the day

I was moved by your unflinching determination. Thanks to the tireless advocacy of you and your husband, the North Korea abduction issue remains a primary focus for Japan and the United States. We join you...in continuing this important work to finally bring Megumi home.

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a letter expressing his condolences to Sakie Yokota, the mother of North Korea abductee Megumi, over the death of her husband, Shigeru.  The letter to Sakie, 84, was made public by the National Association for the Rescue of Japanese Kidnapped by North Korea, a support group for the kin of abduction victims.

@kyronstavic. Not at all, I give him credit for sending the thoroughly insincere thoughts and prayers message.

How do you know for a fact he was being insincere?

Japan had someone in the US State department write it. I fail to see why they thought a letter from Trump would give comfort to her.

You haters just can't give the guy credit for anything, can you?

Sure, he's hastened the end of the GOP, so it's not all bad. But these crocodile tears would make anyone gag.

The man is incapable of empathy.

@kyronstavic

Why do you think he personally deserves credit for this? Do you think they are his words? Do you think he has any idea who Megumi is? Do you think he has any basic understanding of this issue at all?

I can credit the Office of the President for formulating and sending the letter. But because it’s written in the first person, and it’s clear beyond doubt that Trump didn’t write it, or even dictate it, then it loses its sincerity. If he was even just sometimes empathetic, or calm and considered, then they could maybe get away with such a letter.

The only words directly from Trump were probably written in sharpie.
