He's made a habit of bashing Japan lately. One of his recent comments was how Japan ships millions of cars to the US. I guess he's not aware that upwards of 75% of "Japanese" cars are made in the US.

I can see Trump and Abe becoming good buddies.....

The US itself created this kind of alliance after WWII, and he says isn't fair to the U.S.?

To put it simply, yes. But what followed with this was his admiration for MacArthur completely ignoring that it was his doing that Japan is in this quagmire.

Trump's a zero sum person and even brags about it. One of my many worries about him is that he's always been a bully - he glories in his triumphs - and is so narcissistically impaired that if things don't go his way he'll throw a tantrum. And given the military arsenal he would have at his disposal that tantrum could be scary.

As Trump sets China up as the bogeyman in his campaign speeches, he will be looking to support Japan. He will be doing this by promoting Japan as a US ally, good for Trump and also for Abe-perfect bedfellows!

Do not give publicity to an ignorant person. Give it instead to an informed person.

This is pretty much the case with every alliance of the U.S., whether such is stated or not. We don't really expect NATO to turn its full "might" westward. The U.S. is unassailable on the American continent; it's alliances are to give it strategic depth and to implement international policy.

Obama knows a lot about Japan. He has a favorite Shinto shrine (Kamakura) and cares about Japan. He is the first President to have a favorite kind of Onigiri/Omusubi.

Trump? Don't give a damn about him.

He's just stating the truth as much as I am not a fan of Trump.

Japan needs to beef up its military in order to be able to defend itself against a belligerent China. Conscription to toughen up some of the pathetic grass eaters into real men would help.

Look what happens when America does help. It helped Europe in World War II but it seems ot have made matters worse for just about every country helped since then.

Trump's not right about many things, but he is right about this. Could to see him publicizing the issue - not enough people in the US know about it.

Folks Japan's constitution was put in place to KEEP Japan in its place after its brutal war mongering & killing machine was stopped. , What was supposed to happen after it was put in place Japan was supposed to learn from history(it still hasn't) & let the world know it has changed its ways(this one is harder figure out, but clearly Japan could have done a lot more in this regard)

THEN Japan could look at amending the US placed constitution & slowly worked its way to being a normal country again.

Sadly Japan has mostly just kept silent hoping the world would forget what it did, meanwhile its been white washing history at home for decades & wonders why the rest of the world is buying it...............

Japan SHOULD have done a hell of a lot more of a LOT of things this past 70yrs but it CHOSE NO TOO!

Japan has made its own bed, Japan could be light years ahead of where she is now, but she chose not to be, simple as that!
