quote of the day

Is it appropriate to demolish the house when the murder case remains unsolved? There definitely are things that can be felt only at a crime scene. I would like people to get a sense of how they lived their lives. That sense could lead to a break in the case.

An Irie, 62, whose sister Yasuko, 41 and her family were murdered in a house in Setagaya Ward in December 2000. Irie wants the derelict house to be preserved but police plan to demolish the aging structure despite the case remaining open.

The house has no value, forensic or otherwise, to the conclusion of the case. Beyond, I suppose, serving as an irritating reminder to the police that the killer is still out there somewhere.

Should be up to the owner unless the structure is a danger to the public.
