quote of the day

It's hard to go on a trip to somewhere far when considering I might be told by people around me that they were 'infected by a person from Tokyo.

A 74-year-old resident of Tokyo, who usually visits his wife's family in Ishikawa Prefecture every summer, but he has been unable to go there for the past three years. He says that even though he has received his second booster shot for COVID, he is hesitant to travel again this summer amid the current surge in infections.

It's been the same story over the past three summers now. Tokyoites crowded in offices and packed in commuter trains are absolutely safe but if they want to a break from work and go on vacation to somewhere natural and spacious -- then danger! Stay at home!!

I worked throughout the last couple of Augusts, mostly in stupid offices. But this year, I'm off to Thailand.

Absolutely.

The mindset here in Japan according the virus is completely strange.

People are so under fear because of the media and all the fearmongering idiots around.

Everyday the Tokyo Numbers are reported, also here on JT, and all the fearmongering mob waiting in their start positions to jump in and spit out their fear mongering BS.

But yeah, every day in full packed trains, full packed offices, meetings in small meeting rooms,...and whatever,...yeah that is no problem.

But don't go out to enjoy your life.

This man here in the article is 74!

He should go to Ishikawa to meet his wifes family, before it is too late.

Everything can happen when you are 74 years old.

What is he waiting for?

And the most sad point here is, that this old fellow has concerns to go to Ishikawa because he is from Tokyo, and that the people will complain to him for being a Tokyo citizen, and probably he can bring the Virus to Ishikawa.

And that is 100% the fault of the media with their daily fearmongering reports about numbers of cases in Tokyo.

I hope he will understand that Covid will be with us forever and that he has to learn to live with it.

He has a much more higher risk to die from a heart attack or stroke or other disease at the age of 74, before Covid is gone.

So my dear old fellow, go to Ishikawa, visit your wife's family and enjoy your life.

If you wait until Covid is gone, you will be probably already gone.

That is a big problem right now everywhere we go in the planet.

That is no fear mongering, rational people clearly understand the value of knowing how the pandemic is behaving and make decisions accordingly, vaccinating, boosting, travelling or not. If you personally feel fear about it that is a completely different situation.

This quote is about how one single person feels others will think about him if he travels, nothing indicates this would actually happen nor that it is justified. This is Japan, so the example would be just one out of countless others where a person is too worried about other people opinion to act like he would like to.

If you live your life through the lens of others, you will eventually realize how much time you've wasted for NOT achieving what you deserve to achieve, because you have limited yourself to the scrutiny of others.

Anyone living in Japan knows this individual speaks for millions of Japanese who are fearful of traveling outside their prefecture.

Recently, we have had visits from friends from several away prefectures.

I would not allow anyone to visit other than household members.

Just Go! I am sure there are just as many runny noses in Ishikawa per capita as there are in Tokyo...

This year you posted you have made at least three trips overseas.

So, people in Japan are worried about other people's opinion about what they do, exactly what I wrote and something not limited to pandemic related matters.

You do not allow your household members to live in your residence? Where do they stay overnight, in the nearby park? When can they visit?

"Household members mean persons who, for any period of time, are living or have lived together, are sharing or have shared occupancy of a dwelling, are engaged in or have engaged in a sexual relationship, or minors or adults who are dating or who have dated. "

I agree with virusrex. That isn’t fear mongering, it’s only evidential data and advice. There aren’t even bigger rules or punishments installed here in Japan. Of course it’s good if so many abide to the recommendations and warnings but there aren’t strict rules or police enforcement like in most other countries. Whatever, we all can calculate the risk ourselves from those daily data and then adapt our behavior to it. For example from yesterday’s values, 1 out of 11 was or is infected, 1 out of 98 is currently infected and 1 out 3941 of has died from the corona viruses so far. Now you only have to estimate your risk and avoid groups of that number of people, but don’t forget to subtract one or two standard deviations according to your risk affinity.

You can easily get a pcr test the day before travel

I just got a pcr test and they said that although it used to take a day for the results it now takes 2-3 days due to the high number of infection cases bunging up the labs.

The media really should mainly report Covid cases nationally rather the the daily headline "Tokyo reports ( ) new coronavirus cases today."

This little grandpa needs to chill and stop worrying about what other people think. You should enjoy life, before it’s too late. ;)

I live in Ishikawa, its my favorite perfecture in Japan, and will never live anywhere else. With that out of the way, yes I did worry sometimes when seeing number plates from Kanto but life goes on, just as the flue this virus ls here to stay. Time people change their attitude toward it from fear to just another challange in life. Travel is a big business here and many businesses I know here are happy seeing Matsuri start up again, people staying at Minshuku's again, and just enjoying nature here.
