Because the USA have a lot of natural resources and J need to import 90% of them. So in J is profitable invest in such things.

Let us not forget both japan and the us excel at obsessively comparing themselves to other countries. Did prof esty take that into account??

Professors excel at making huge generalizations, which usually they have to retract the next time they make a huge generalization.
