quote of the day

Japanese beer is a lot better than American beer. We'll be looking those up at the liquor store when we get back.

Can’t comment about craft beers because I haven’t tried enough American, but speaking about the mainstream stuff then yeah, Japanese beers are better than American, Australian and New Zealand.

And both can't be compared with European beer. Looking forward to find those in shops. Especially Japanese beer, it fits very well the intense summer heat, but not so good in winter times.

I would have to agree that Asahi and Sapporo are better than Budweiser or the other beers on offer at US supermarkets. But when it comes to craft beer? Well, Japan does have some really good ones, but the US is still ahead on that score. Japan may catch up though - the craft scene here is evolving fast.

Is craft beer cheaper in the US? I understand it costing more than mainstream beer here, but many of them are double. Making beer cost 450 to 500 yen a can is not progress.

Yet more Nihon Sugoi rubbish.

Mainstream Japanese and American beers are gnat's pee but both countries have excellent craft beers.

The US has something like 6,000 craft beers. Japan has better beer? Nice sweeping generalization there.

Debatable. And then, at least in my experience, the supposedly same beer that you buy in another country sometimes just doesn't taste the same as in its home country. [I've had Asahi Super Dry in the US that didn't taste at all like I was expecting, and Budweiser in Japan that was hardly recognizable.]

I love my craft beer, but is it better than American craft beer, I personally don’t think so, not putting down Japanese micro brewed beers, but the American micro brewed craft beers are more complex, fruitier hops, a nice bite and deeply aromatic. Now Kirishima does make a fantastic micro and a fantastic Lager. But then again, it’s all subjective.

bass4funk have you tasted all 6,000 craft beers in America?

No, but I did taste more than 1,780 so I think I got this down cold.

As far as the major labels go, this is a no-doubter. Asahi an Sapporo ars superior to any of the watery brews made in the U.S. and I have been telling that to my American friends for years. Haven't tasted a craft beer on either side that I've liked yet so that one is a wash to me.

British beer - ales and stouts - is best. Much more flavour than lager.

Mass produced definitely, but micro brewed not even close.

Tons to choose from.

I will never, ever dispute that irrefutable fact.

Love Goose beers out of Chicago.

Their IPA is an inspiration.
