Prof. Suzuki is correct in that vaccination should matter more than immigration control. However, vaccination just reduces the chance of being seriously ill. Covid will only go when it has passed though all available hosts, like similar flu viruses. Lockdowns suppress this and prolong the presence of the virus. We needed to get the vaccines/tablets out globally, quickly, and then allow Covid to let rip through populations as quickly as possible, celebrating high case numbers. Fearing case numbers when we have the meds, means endlessly prolonging Covid and yo-yoing in and out of lockdown.

Most people in these situations, globally, believe that vaccination is intended to be a form of policing. Sadly, in many countries, they may be right. The countries that have turned a blind eye to residency status and handed out vaccines, no questions asked, are doing it right.

And we all know what kind of “cash” businesses are utilizing those persons that came here under one status and are now, here “illegally” after pursuing more “lucrative vocations”. So, of course, in Japan, exceptions should be made to just turn a blind eye regarding certain “staff” and “service workers”.
