"Digitalization" (or its trendy cousin "DX") comes up in my translation work several times a day at the moment. It is the perfect buzzword for Japanese government/upper management types as it sounds impressive but is also conveniently vague. I recently engaged in digitalization by replacing our wind-up kitchen timer with a digital one from the 100-yen shop.

Digits are Japan’s chief problem. When you use digits, you don’t make babies.

That’s a misleading path, of course. If it’s not working analogically then it even more won’t work digitally. Digitalization can at maximum support analog processes, but it’s surely an unfitting replacement. Better don’t bet even a single penny on your new pseudo-religion. As a longtime IT insider I would say, the very most things that are hyped now, are at best a very big bubbly fake. But of course, feel free to see for yourself.
