Osechi's an outdated concept. It made sense when every place was closed for three days during the 1st through the 3rd back in the old days up to the 90s. Osechi provided food for those days.

These days, every convenience store is open, unfortunately for the workers there, and many stores and restaurants are on open on the 2nd or 3rd.

Plus, most of the food in osechi sucks.

Fair enough for the price rise. Osechi is not an "essential" by any stretch of the imagination, so this isn't important.
