I've traveled extensively thru SE Asia and I don't see that hard work ethos at all. I've been told to leave stores and offices before closing time, because the staff want to go home, which they tell me! I've had store clerks in empty stores refusing to serve me because they're talking to their friends on their cell phones. These are not isolated incidents.

Everyone there seems obsessed with cutting corners and minimizing their workload.

However this is probably translated from Japanese which would give it a twist. It may not have been as condescending sounding

Japanese super market like Life has a wide variety of jobs that can is marketable like fish monger, deli preparing, butcher, and bread baking. So are taught at culinary schools but most crafts are mostly only taught at the trade. They all teach sanitary precaution methods and marketing/presentation of food items.

It will be simple for them to learn from these supermarket then to jump into the trade from the start since they have all their knowledge into a manual so you can learn the basics by reading divided by various individual tasks and why they are divided in those ways so they can understand the whole system instead of the traditional watch and learn method.

Given that this is under Japan’s Technical Intern Training Program, I wonder what sorts of technical skill training these 15 "interns" will undergo during their "internships" with supermarket chain Life Corp.

Most of these jobs through the program have nothing technical about them, little to no training in marketable skills, and no component that could be regarded as an internship. What a joke. I wish the government would drop the absurd euphemistic label and instead more accurately and honestly name the program.

They can learn check-out and shelf-stacking in Thailand. But I guess it would not be world's best practice, like here in Japan. They will have to learn to shout and set jingle machines throughout the supermarket, cos that's what customers really like. Oh, and learn to resist any small or jokey talk with customers at the cash register.
