There was a study of rats, known as "Rat Park". Two groups of rats, one group has its individuals isolated, and the other was made a "rat park" so to speak, free roaming, play ground, etc. In each of the group, there were two tubes of water, one is drugged the other is just normal water. At the end of the experiment, the rats in isolation chose to be drugged most of the time, while the rats in the "rat park" group chose to drink water most of the time. Researches concluded that the rats in paradise prefer to socialize with other mice, over indulging themselves in drugs.

Maybe the socializing provided endorphins? Maybe they should try another group of isolated rats pushed to exercise on wheels, for comparison. Joggers' high.
Sometimes they get into drugs as part of their relationships, like the party atmosphere available. I guess it could turn into 'poor at building' at some point, like when they've started stealing from friends after borrowing petered out, or disconnected from everyone after jail stints or turning homeless.
Or maybe QOTD is exactly right, as no reason for cultural tropes to hold true across cultures.

People in their 50s also turn to drugs, alcohol, sex, tv shows, food, going out, sports, online shopping, real shopping, yelling at their kidz, sexting, and more to ease work-related stress.
You can't prove a bad point.

People take drugs for a multitude of reasons: one of them being might be, they enjoy it.
