quote of the day

Teleworking is simply not an option since I have no choice but to work at this tiny factory using machines.

teleworking is not going to be an option for everyone that is true- BUT the gov does need to implement measures to support teleworking for those who can do it and put legislation in place to protect those that have to go to work. its not a one size fits all.

If the people who have jobs where remote working is possible are allowed to work remotely, it will mean safer commutes for people like this guy who have to physically be there.

This brings the reality home to those who think they know how society operates. Yeah - just work from home!

Bloated numbers in countless offices across the land, esp in urban areas, could surely be decreased by teleworking, easing congestion & risk and perhaps laying the blueprint for a major work/lifestyle revolution for the future.

But to the millions and millions that work in manufacturing (yes - Japan is still a major manufacturer), hospitality, shop assiastants / sales, cottage industries etc, sitting home in front of a PC is not even closely an option.

And to those who have any number of part-time jobs in various locations trying to make ends meet, well I guess they'd love a sit-at-home job.

Govt Inc fat cats have little idea.

Sadly, what brings it home even harder -- when people like this poor guy get it because the virus doesn't give a damn if it's work or a pub. The government needs to keep that in mind not only when they callously say, "Telework... or stay home of your own volition and get no assistance." Guys like this need to be told to stay home, and receive at least the majority of their pay, like other nations are doing. Or, if these people absolutely MUST go into work, the government must demand others do not who do not need to; no SUGGESTIONS or requests, a demand, punishable by massive fines or prison. And if and when people like this man get it from going into work, all must be covered by the company or the government, including compensation in the event of a worker's death due to contraction from going into work. But a lockdown with at least partial pay would be preferable, and to those who worry about the economy as a result more than this man's life, keep in mind that the economic impact is going to be far worse the longer the wait until the inevitable lockdown is protracted.
