Timothy Heath, a senior international and defense researcher at the Rand Corporation think tank. China's massive Coast Guard, and a new law expanding what it can do, worries its neighbors, especially Japan, which is bolstering its own Coast Guard.

The big problem for the Japanese is that they're simply outnumbered and outgunned.

All you have to do is read where he works, the Rand Corporation, then google which military hawks have worked there before and the troubles they have gotten the US into.

America cannot even manage to subdue poor countries like Iraq or Afghanistan so how do you propose they would be able to destroy China without resorting to nukes, and if they did that the whole world would be destroyed.

China has a massive coast guard because it's a massive country, with a massive population with a massive economy.

Sounds good, but businesses only care about making as much money as fast as possible from reselling cheap plastic crap from China. People only are about their life span.
Give up the knowhow to build things? No problem.
Put workers out of work? No problem.
China didn't take a single job away from anyone. Businesses sacrificed their fellow members of society and the future of their children to sell cheap plastic crap at the highest price with the lowest cost. They'd buy it from the devil if the price was right,.

Just stop buying Chinese products. Period.

In Japan's defense (no pun intended):
They haven't been aggressively spinning up their JMSDF or Coast Guard. Some other large, increasingly belligerent country has been, though.

That's the Okinawan government stops squawking when Chinese ships come by.

And as the clock ticks, the Chinese will not have an easy time shaking the shadow tailing them: the ever-present danger of "outnumbering" themselves one day and the eventual collapse of their hegemony over the minorities held in thrall and against their will inside the Empire of the Han.

What a stupid comment, unless it's taken out of context. There's far more to the Senkaku issue than just numbers on either side.

I'm sure the military experts will be along soon to talk about how America would destroy China, blah blah blah. And calling China 'commies' and throwing a number of insults around. I assume your screen name is Yu no!

Ah, more of that what-about-ism. Killing is made easier when you have hundreds of military bases all over the world.

Might be time for Japan to take a leaf out of China's play book and arm its fishing fleets and call them militia, in order to greatly increase numbers to assist the coast guard. A dual launcher for short range anti ship missiles and a 30-40mm deck gun would be enough.

Well, it won't be the first time America has killed innocent civilians.

China has deliberately built up its aggressive capacities (paid for by everyone buying their cheap sh**) while Japan has aimed to appease and live peacefully, sadly we are seeing again that such a policy, morally laudable though it may be is no use in the real world in dealing with militarily aggressive, expansionist nationalistic regimes like the CCP.

I don’t give a dime on anyone’s ships or fleets. Those are by far the most weakest part of any defense strategy. Too vulnerable and too slow, nowadays even equal to a static target. Some subs, torpedoes, mines, air raids and nothing’s left. Or just only bomb their port areas, then there’s no refueling, refills, any other supplies....they just die from hunger on the sea even if the ships are still maneuverable.

We all know that veritable bastion of human rights, China, would never entertain such an idea!

*America cannot even manage to subdue poor countries like Iraq or Afghanistan so how do you propose they would be able to destroy China without resorting to nukes, and if they did that the whole world would be destroyed. *MEOW!!! IF the US destroyed countries like Iraq or Afghanistan and reduced them to rubble like I KNOW THEY CAN the entire world would look at the US as total bullies no human compassion etc.... Iraq got a small taste of it. Don't get it twisted, words mean nothing, action means a lot. Its easy to read post and look at articles someone else wrote. Until you have seen for your own eyes some of the toys and how they are used and what they are for, ONLY THEN CAN YOU TALK. I KNOW, BUT I CAN'T SAY!! I READ THE POST AND I SHAKE MY HEAD THINKING THE AVERAGE JOE DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE. AGAIN IM IN THE KNOW. I have no idea why people say NUKES, is that all you think the US has!! MEOW better think harder and in between.
Michael Machida
America would certainly destroy China. No problem.

Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan were/are proxy wars where the real prize was not so tangible. A war between the U.S. and China would be no such thing - it would be for the fate of the world, literally. The cavalry is prepared and standing by twenty-four hours a day seven days a week in all types of weather on those bases that a lot of people hate. American servicemen and women have got Japan's back and will kick China's rear. Believe it and don't forget it!
